Post by: Stavros on August 24, 2008, 11:10:49 pm
Red Ocktober was handed over to me by Norry today at the Epic show so it can add Wales to its passport and it can attend the Mayhem bash at Llanberis

Be afraid, very afraid >:(

Of?

Its well known (in Springer circles) that the 'Swedish' navy shipyard (possibly china based) has had problems with its designs in the past.

As can be seen in the pic Arrow provided, navigation is a problem as the Springer shown seems to have run aground..
There are reports that certain parts fall off in cold water...  :o
'Doing an Arrow' has been entered in to the 'Springer Dictionary' for filling your Springer with water over the motor (not recommended for water-cooling by the way)... there are some thoughts however, that this is a new form of Semi-submersible...

Having arrived in North Wales, Red Oktober was captured by 2 nere do well's, but managed to escape and next surfaced on the Blackheath club stand at the Warwick Model Boat show, where after three days of having to listen all about steam, it lept into the arms of some passing French model boaters with the promise of fine wine and dining, and was last seen heading across the channel cleverly disguised as a russian sub.  :-))

Close-up of poster. The small print at the bottom says; "Do you want to assist in doing a "By Any Means" (BBC tv ) type trip for TOESUP`S model? Take it abroad with you on holiday? Are you employed by a shipping company or an airline?  There are modellers in 25 European countries waiting for a start of this project. Any ideas welcome. Cheap or free shipping.   A DUMMY RUN TO GERMANY AND AUSTRIA HAS BEEN DONE AND NO PROBLEMS HAVE EMERGED TAKING IT AS LUGGAGE WITHOUT BATTERIES OR RADIO.

What a very cool idea, If it ever gets to this side of the pond. It has an open slot here in Michigan and  we can cover Lake Huron,Lake Erie, Detroit river, Lake St Clair, Anchor Bay, Clinton River a couple of branches, And the defunct The Clinton-Kalamazoo Canal. Which started in Mount Clemens and made it 12 miles toward the west side of the state before it was abandoned  150 years later if you know where to look you can see traces of the aqueduct that carried the canal over the Clinton river a number of locations have water in them. And used as storm channels to the river.

You are on for that PT :-)). Strange that you should mention the Lakes in your area.  The very first book I checked out of the local Carnegie public library was "Paddle to the Sea" , all about the native American boy who carves a model canoe and sends it from the snows to the river down through the Great Lakes to the ocean. Maybe this will be an up-to-date version. It has to get back to Toes in PNW sometime <*<, no rush.

Hello Roger

Of course La Rochelle and Bordeaux are not in Vendée

Gazou said is that he is able to pick up Red Oktober in Vendée up to La Rochelle (his home is close to Rochefort) and then Gazou is able to send Red Oktober to Bordeaux.

Anyway it could be a good idea if you can pick up the sub at St Nazaire.

But as this post on the french forum is brand new, I think that we have to wait 2 days prior any action ...  Wait and see

Title: Re: Red Ocktober's world tour
Post by: Arrow5 on November 12, 2008, 12:57:30 pm
Yes the possibilities are endless. The Beeb and their "Container", BBC again with "By Any Means". My inspiration was a childhood book called "Paddle to the Sea" about the native American boy who carves a wooden canoe and sets it off down from the mountain snows of spring through rivers and the Great Lake to the ocean.  Yes some sort of sponsorship would be good to help with the inevitable "dead-ends" that will need finances to get out of. Perhaps customs or other charges that it would be unfair to expect the current " handler" to pay. We are trying to do a "By Any Means" , ie scrounge lifts, transport, time , and effort from total strangers ( except those known to us via the forum(s) . Some very generous offers have already been made and some cash expended while doing trials in the UK, notably  Norry, Stavros and Steamboat Phil to name the pioneers.  Now we need professional standard help I think it could snowball as Roger suggests.

It was the worstest  part of the worstestest day of my life...

I was driving along in my nice Navy Blue car when I suddenly realised it was """NAVY BLUE"""

So I rushed along to the nearest" Halfords" to get some Paint & brushes to put it right...

The Girl in the shop suggested "I paint it Pink", to which I agreed....Certainly Better Than "NAVY BLUE" I Thought....

She then added " You will have to rub it down first then paint it with a Primer Paint"... " That way you will get a better finish"...

Then came the Bad Bit...The Primer Paint was ...................."BATTLESHIP GREY" !!!

Now...Would that not make any grown man Cry...A Car That Looked Like a Battleship...

...Best Regards...Norry...

P.S.   Vauxhall Astra Estate For Sale....Low Mileage... Long MOT & TAX...Good Runner...Only One Fault With Car............

                              ...Its Navy Blue in colour...

Monday the Red Oktober is supposed to made a port of call at the navl base of Brest  O0

Nothing wrong with grey pent says the "gallon and a half at a time man " ;D  ( I`ll explain that someday Xtian)  That is why the old Ford Transit doesn`t come up very well on radar, the other half gallon ;).   We hope Red O is looking shipshape and Brest fashion. Tri-colour or Bretton black and white ? We await photographs.......watch that radiation in there :o

To us, onto a Hungarian country when expected?
The children wait for it very much already.
True, it would be possible to sail in spring only, but a little feast would like to be kept.
During procession away I started amending my website, Angol and Magyar to two languages on a language if he interests somebody possibly.

Perhap a communications failure {-).  Will be better for you when ice-free water allows operations in Hungary :-))  The Scottish water has gone "hard", see pictures below. :o >:-o Change of subject , any progress with your planned stern-wheeler Springer ?  I like your new website very much and thank you for English translations O0.  Best wishes for 2009 to all in Hungary.

There are an other running project, an ark on the Thames meanwhile 1:in 2 sizes.
A new racecourse is made during time for the children, with a pier tying up and with a lighting tower.

Aha Papa, I had forgoetten that the stern wheeler was to be steam propelled also...magnificent !   The "ark" on the  Thames, do you mean a Thames sailing barge?  You are making a harbour for mooring with a lighthouse , good, the children will have a lot of interest in the racecourse.  Roll on 1st of May :-))

It would be possible to skate already on this. %)

I started making this ark for the children onto a May.
My fortune, I happened to build up a very good website to it, in this manner quasi only is needed.

http://www.ivorbittle.co.uk/chapter2/section%203%20all%20parts.htm

He managed to discuss it with the proprietor of the website that we may popularize it freely here on Hungary.
Right popularisation is not needed though at it, than to win the children onto a little game.
Where I live, the single little city on the coast of Danube, from Budapest onto 50 kilometres. Here because of the middle of a May, we get together to play on a Friday, the coast on all weeks, to model, to sail.
Here we wait for Red Oktober :-)

AH yes , a Thames barge.  The word "ark" in English language usally means the ship of Noah in the Christian Bible !   I think Ivor Bittle is one of the leading experts on modelling that type of craft. My friend Sandy has no sails yet for his Thames barge but we tow it with my Springer sometimes. Looking forward to the month of May !

I am not sure Jerry building has anything to do with the Germans.

It is just about houses thrown up quickly for a quick profit. There was a boom for this in the 1930s, where a house was thrown up in less than a week. Mostly timber framed.

But back n topic.
Good to see the Red October doing the rounds.

Hello

Red Oktober is back to business !

Tomorow is the first french models exhibition at Châteaulin and Red Oktober will be there.  After Châteaulin Red Oktober will go to St Nazaire and then will be in the hand of Roger in France ... To be continue.

Today I've installed RC onboard and made a try on Pors Bihan.

Pors Bihan means Little Harbour (Breton Celtic language) this the name of my personnal pond.

From my office :

A pond or a larger lake ?  a ship modeller`s dream..your own private dock and home all in one.  You must hold the record in the  "how far do you have to go to sail" stakes, looks like you open a door and you are there !  Care to show us some more details of the supply vessel, nice looking large model.   We all look forward to seeing Red O and some more models  at the show.  Best regards , Duncan. :-))

Right now it is about 50 degrees (11.1 c) and clear. We are real happy with the weather, 99.9%of the time it is just rain and no shoveling is required. What were you training in, small boat rough water handling? I think that is what the Coast Guard does its rough water training.  Like I said you have a real nice house.

Nice offer Oldiron but I don't think Red O will see old England`s shores again. It is going east after a sojourn in sunny Spain then north to the Arctic Circle via northern Europe and hopefully further east to get back to Toes in USA where she started from.   Is your trip limited to England ?  If your route includes Europe you may be able to help, there are some interesting boat related venues to visit.  We need a presence in Portugal, Belgium, Luxenburg, Switzerland, & Poland for example. PM me if more details required, regards Duncan.

SECRET REVEALED:

After an apparent disappearance since the Model Boat Show in Brest, France, all can now be revealed.

Red Ocktober has been on a secret mission to the trainning ground of the French Rugby Team. She was instrumental in causing so many problems that France lost to England  10 to 34.

Monday next she arrives in La Vendee.

I do indeed travel, mostly here in the Uk tho! Though my user name "Voyager" came through a fondness of StarTrek and not because i'm a globe trotter lol.

I'd be all to happy to take your Red Ocktober somewhere, my up coming destinations are, Peterborough, Bournemouth, Brighton and an unknown overseas trip that my future father in law has arranged. Are these any good to you?

No Bill it is in a wooden box just big enough to cover the boat, about 20"X12" if I remember. When I took it to Germany and Austria it was out of the box and slipped into a small rucksack and carried on the plane as hand luggage,"cabin" ie overhead locker.  No radio or batteries so no "security" issues. Red O is supposed to be going down to Spain shortly, after that not sure but we have people expecting it all over, 25 countries in fact. Free transport by HM Gov plane would be nice O0   I know the western end of Cyprus quite well  Ktima / Paphos area and north, been a while since I was there, loved it. Keep in touch, I`ll put you on the list :-))

Don't know if the man had something to do with S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
An old 2CV car with several bullet-hits all over came to a halt with squeaking tires at my house. A weired looking man with an eyepatch rushed out of the car, mumbled something like "they are after me...." Handed me the parcel and vanished in his car. "Ruuuun...hiiide....ruuun awaaaay..." he yelled - and left me alone with this mysterious box.

When I opened it, the now famous "Red O" greeted me. No bullet wounds here...no sign if any seafights. All in tiptop condition.
I now have to prepare the journey with my delicate cargo to some mysterious places all over Germany...

If it all goes well, Red-O will go from there to belgium. If this won't happen, I will take it back with me and take it some more nice places around Germany before anybody else continues the tour.

So Red October did not go to Belgium. The Belgians there did not seem to know anything about the project and what it is all about and were not very keen on it either. So I took it back home with me. It has a good home here. I feed it regularly and hopefully it will see German waters very soon, before it will continue it's journey so some yet unknown territories.

Hi Umi,

no problem to send Red-O to Holland. But even if I send it today, it is not sure if the parcel would make it in time. It's a bit short noticed :embarrassed:
I would also need a postal address (they didn't mention their address on the website)

We only have a chance to make it in time if I can send it before 3 p.m. today.

Is anyone of the dutch club-members here? I even would be able to meet up with them half way - maybe on the German/Dutch border. But we need a quick decision for that.

Thanks Tom for your efforts. We look forward to some pictures of the Werkschepdag event. Maybe Red Oktober can hitch a ride as cargo on a barge  :-))  Now you have found Mayhem perhaps we can persuade you to visit us more often.  We need some info on events in the Netherlands and some of the great models from another seafaring nation.  BTW the photo-pidgeon made it back OK, just needs it`s eyes cleaned, volcanic ash  <:( :}

is red october still in deep waters ?- does she still evade naval intelligence ?

is there any log of her future missions for 2010 ?

i may be able to put a mission together later in the year for a trip ' across the pond ' ?

it would seem odd to see red oktober out of the water in place so famous for the kennedy assasination- but hey it might be 'do-able' ?

Still wet glass plates from the processing laboratory reveal the renegade Red Oktobre (oh yes we noted the spelling) was seen cavorting with elite European models. The plot sicke...thickens. The towing ship has been identified as a 1/50th scale "Smit Denemarken" piloted by one Wout van der SPEK, not too far away from SPEKTRE we note. 8)

And for anyone interested the motor yacht behind the Smit tug and Red Oktober is a Technomarine Jaguar from a Wedico kit circa late 80's.
I could be wrong but I doubt it as I've been after one for years. Anyone knowing of one for sale please let me know.

Either. I missed a complete but in need of tlc one on fleabay about two years back and have kicked myself ever since. Must imagine there are no kits about by now as they were only manufactured for a few years Wedico now concentrating on their excellent truck / trailer kits and accessories.

After months of design and construction in the Abbey Road Shipyard (main problem was simply forgetting where we put
things...),  the Yellow Submarine had her first sea trials (well, pond trials, actually) the other day.

Watch out, Red October, you silly krasny sub. Our captain, Old Fred, has been following you and your handlers for
months now, and after we get properly outfitted, we'll be out looking for you. Your time is up...

Red Oktober slipped into Stockholm inner harbour under the ice and was seen aboard a Swedish ferry.  Destination unknown, believed to be eastbound. Update when available. Various ploys to smuggle Red Oktober out of the country onboard this ferry have been less than successful , including disguised as a company vessel (wrong colour) and  adding a funnel.  Stowed in bilges of the engine room was not possible, too small a space. Crew abandoned attempts and told Red O to try their luck outside the Royal Palace where some passing tourists might take pity and help their journey towards Mother Russia.

Well the brave crew of Red Oktober had an idea on how to get home to get Vodka.
Take the Viking Line ferry to Helsinki the Transfer on to St Peterline and it is home.
First they need supplys for the trip so they visited the famous martime shop Nautiska Magasinet for supplys.

What a trip Cos918, terrific pictures O0.  Bet you got a rake of ferry pictures to show us too O0.  I`ve been looking at some of the ice-breakers in the Baltic,great shapes for models.  :-))  So no strange looking woman in a red jacket with a tiger on a leash hanging about the docks in St Petersburg then ? :}

St Peter line ferry was 2 1/2 hours late each way. On the way in we had to a hard turn in st peterburg harbour to get to the ferry terminal. We were making our own tracks throught the ice. I took over an hour with the help of tugs to get us turned and docked. Air temp - 20 deg cel
On the way back we got stuck over 4 times and we were the lead on a convoy of ships zig zaging our way throught. At one stage we had to back up and go full ahead and ram our way out.
My friend told be to day on her return trip to st peterburg she was over 3 hours late and need help from an ice breaker. In winter time this is one extream ferry route defently recomend

It was fascinating to watch on AIS tracker, I could see the stack of ships all coming to a halt except one which overtook them. When the Maria stopped it looked as if you had gone on stand-by near a disabled ship (Dutch freighter I think) I didn't think the overtaking one was an ice-breaker,(it was doing 7 and 9 knots at times.) to free  all of you. Exciting stuff.

there was a line of cargo ships.
Since we were on a ferry with a class A super ice hull and good power.
me and my frineds were gussing at what was unfolding  in these extream conditions captains help out other captains were possibel. I do rember one of the Silja captainas saying lane sepration gos out the window in thick ice.
So we were steam out on all 4 engines. we passed withen 20m of this line of gargo ships to help free them and give them a clear ice lane to follow. Duncan this is when we got stuck. we had to revers and ram our way out. we zig zaged for about hour or 2. then we stop and let the crago ship take the lead as the lead ship burns so much more fuel so the extra cost was of fuel was spread evenly by all shipping companys. We passed X2 russian ice breakers but they were inbound
My friends and I have done most of the baltic ferry routs bettwen us. We all agree this is the most extream in winter. There was a ferry that would have coped with this no problem and that was Finnjet. She had a fersom reputaion in ice and freeing other Silja and Viking ferrys

That is great to read John. Pity you didn`t have a laptop with you to follow the action and names of  the ships on AIS Shipping Tracker. Would have been even better in daylight to watch and film the action.  Must drop a hint to the Lady Muriel to see if she fancy s a sea cruise soon O0.  Hope you have thawed out OK by now, great effort. We need more models of the big ferries in these parts, very impressive.

Umi , still same situation tonight (Monday 20.15 hrs UK time) with a queue of nine ships mainly freighters, one tanker and a Russian "beacon" ship which looks more like a large tug/ice-breaker "Ivan Kruzensht".   All seem to be static a few NM west of Kronshtadt. No sign of the ship Cos918 (John) was on, I wonder if the transponder gets ice covered or if they just switch it off.  It is  very useful to left click on the ship`s symbol and get photos , course and lots of other details.  www.marinetraffic.com/ais/

Was also spotted in Scalloway, the ancient capital of these islands, paying respects to the gallant men and women of the clandestine  "Shetland Bus" who served in the Great Patriotic War out of these waters to enemy occupied Scandinavia and beyond.   Reminders of an  earlier conflict is the 17th century cannon from the naval raids of the 2nd & 3rd Anglo-Dutch wars.  Oil related "floatels" in various bays and sheltered inlets seem to be a subject of interest.

Via eMail to Mayhem ...

Copy of our club Binnacle showing Red visiting the group last meeting. I will have it at the Maple Bay Wooden Boat Festival  on the 21 – 22 (link to Maple Bay is in there on page 9 if interested). I think Ron Burchett will be back first week of June and will work on where it travels next. I have had a couple of requests to send it back east but no one is travelling that way.

Feel free to post our Binnacle on Mayhem or RC Groups.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B34-lNcGPN5KTUlPNzdjYzYtLVE (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B34-lNcGPN5KTUlPNzdjYzYtLVE)

Ron had a contact to send it to Australia but not sure if he followed up with it.

When it was in Nanaimo we had it in their pool – bit of water in the bilge. I thought it was coming in through the prop shaft but it was a hairline crack where the CA glue had let go. I’ve patched the crack inside with a bit of glass cloth and Cold Cure  then sloshed a good coat of S-1 epoxy sealer in there – that sealed it fairly well. Should be good for the next group. Also will provide another battery adapter to the Tamiya plug style – make it easier.

Sound like we are on the right track? Will have a couple of photo-ops hopefully as well when at Maple Bay.

Regards,
  Mike

...Hi Guys...

RED OKTOBER came up in a conversation at the club on Sunday as it was our guys who took her to Ellesmere Port last year prior to a planned trip to Canada...
Did RED OKTOBER make it back across the pond ?...If not where is she now ?...

Good Morning - Red Oktober is currently up island at Ron's place waiting to see where it heads next.
I received an e-mail from Umi this morning as well - perhaps it can make one more visit to the north end of Vancouver Island before leaving. Have some work up in port McNeil and it might look good meeting up with the Numas Warrior there for a few photos together.
It's in good shape, packed in its container and ready to travel.
Regards, Mike

It would have been good to see a model boat circumnavigate the globe going eastwards but the opportunity to re-cross the Atlantic was too good to miss. Planned Oz courier let us down three years in a row sadly.  Perhaps Red and crew will resurface amongst the lumberjack and will be OK !  A few people in Canada were on the welcoming list too , Mounted Police for instance.   Toesup must be missing his wandering protégé.

It didn't come over with any electronics - last time I had it in the pond I used a setup from one of my springers - there are a variety of connectors with leads that travel with it.

I also gave the innards a good brushing of S-100 when it first arrived to seal the inside (outlined in an earlier posting)

We'll take a photo of the case that it travels in and post it.

Here you go Mike. The original travelling crate was on the heavy side so it was jettisoned in Helsinki for airline cabin travel in rucksack.  The current crate is blue foam and half the weight of the original wooden one.   No electronics or batteries are carried because of current security concerns at airports. Wonder where it is bound now, there a few Canadians and Americans that might like to sail it if we can get it to them free or cheap. Any ideas ?

Tovarishch Nemo,  mayhaps the captain and crew of Red Oktober would like a bit of capitalist luxury but alas they would be going the wrong way plus it is now within striking distance of comrade Toesup, our illustrious designer/builder`s dry-dock that to reverse direction now might be a bit counter productive.   My  Australian friends are back in UK for their hols until Sept/Oct so maybe the topic will re-surface (sorry) over a wine glass or two during their stay. Then a complete circumnavigation could be back on track, NZ, China, Japan all have enthusiasts waiting to assist.  I will contact you if the Aussies co-operate, their son is a seaman out of Newcastle NSW and a strong union member with dozens of contacts sailing the Pacific so maybe a good wine down by the loch some summer evening...... :} Dosvidanya

Original idea was for it to go round the world and meet Springerites in foreign parts and eventually back to the the builder the expat Brit pirate known as Toesup in California. A very generous offer of a quicker return to the Americas was accepted after an extended tour of Europe and it is now somewhere  between nor-west Pacific coast and the pirates top secret hide-away.    Madam Umiski, are those black automobiles domestic products or imports from Moskovich factory in Ukraine . Do people in those cars wear 1950s USA style dark glasses or modern  Russian oligarch style, ie Gucci or similar?  :o

Title: Re: Where is RED OKTOBER ?...
Post by: Arrow5 on April 21, 2018, 12:21:58 pm
Yes it is pretty comprehensive article but red Oktober is the only the only model boat in the magazine, apart from an ad showing an air-boat.  The title in red on the cover is repeated in English under the Japanese characters , Radio Control Technique.  The whole R/C scene is covered with articles on just about everything , with the domestic modelling scene and slope soaring in Europe covered. Safety and design, engine lists, drones, airfoils etc as well as events are much the same style as European magazines . It is a hefty tome at 178 pages on good quality paper. Lots of advertisements similar to most magazines but maybe some clues to what is coming next to us.  I don't know the cost per issue , Ithink it may be monthly as there is a 5 and 2018 on the cover.  They have a Facebook page  http://www.facebook.com?radiocontroltech  which no doubt will have you on some sort of government list in Asia and elsewhere  %)     Mr Ueda Yuichi, the current holder of Red O , kindly sent me a copy of the magazine. The hunt is now on for a translator , Loch Ness seems like a good stake-out place now that the tourist season is upon us.  Where the renegade is going to turn up next is anybody`s guess.

The story teller, or the boat?
The story teller for sure Tug , I am the guilty author  8)  It all started during the early days of Springer mania when Toesup and I , unknown to each other , tried to capitalize  on the deck-washing characteristics of the Springer hull design. Someone suggested that it might win an award at one of the Springer events in the UK but that never happened . Toes had sent Red O to Scotland to Norry  , Mayhem member who knew the  UK model boat events circuit. When that award idea was poo-poohed we decided to make the effort worthwhile by sending it wrong way round, BY Any Means style.   I took it to a couple of Baltic countries then annual hols to Bavaria and  left it with a local modeller to pass-on where went .  A long time later it arrived in Japan Where it featured in a major model  Magazine.       It was then mistakenly sent Toes in California, U.S.A. thereby missing many modellers waiting in Hawaii, China. Oz and NZ, sorry guys.

RED OKTOBER and  HMS Sprub   on Scottish waters. ( Pssst anybody got space for downunder or OZ    for Sprub.   ( lid comes off making it less high)          The one place I really  wanted it to go was in Denmark where the vintage " Springeren" submarine  is housed, tides were against us.

We received Red over here on Vancouver Island and gave it a bit of a tour before sending it to Aimee (I think).
What was interesting was the number of club pins, ribbons and other information that travelled with it.
Be interesting if Toes can post photos of the travels.

This really sounds like one of those stories that you couldn't make up.
Goodeness only knows how long it would have taken if Hawaii, China, Oz & NZ had been added.

I cannot comment on Red Oktober's earliest travels, but having a look at the beginning of this topic back in 2008 will inform those interested of her early days from Norry onwards!

It came to me many years ago for a while (rubbish straight running boat.....I know old school) then with some of my clubs stickers and badges it was sent of to foreign parts vis a fellow mayhemer. All was well for a while, but then due to aviation laws all the radio and batteries had to be removed for transport, this of course did not deter our fellow mayhems and it traveled on, and on, and well on, until it must have entered Narnia. :}  but its back........ Guinness work record me thinks...(is it still Guinness  :o )
Mayhem 2020....red October look a likes for us all  :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Post 463 shows Red Ocktober back at Toe's yard with his other boats.

It was interesting to be part of the tour - it visited a few places when it came to Vancouver Island.

Red Oktober is back at it's home port and in good condition..I've just recovered it yesterday from the storage unit (there, due to a house move mid 21) and will be assembling the rest of the fleet for some pics!..

Try a message to Towsup - couple of posts back. As far as I know he has it back.

He had a couple of posts as well on the RC Groups site - the Springer topic might find him.

Trust this is helpful

Hi did Red O ever get to Australia?
I was asked to take her with me some few years ago, but weight and size was going to mean it was excess baggage on the plane and rather expensive.  So I had to decline.
regards
Roy

No, It was still under consideration up to the last moment, but when it reached Japan, it was pointed out that
That Red Oktober had been traveling for ten years... And maybe it should head home to Ralph. When it arrived,
back at home port, it was a surprise , and Ralph mentioned that he never thought he would see it again.
So I think it was a good decision to send it home, and not long after, Duncan, Arrow5, passed away.
Kudos to Duncan Cameron for making so many of Red Oktober's visits and destinations possible.  :-)

Thanks for the info Umi.  Seems to have done very well travelling around.  Has she got many Airmiles?

Probably the most airmiles any submarine will ever get! Rest in Peace Duncan. It was fun reading about where Red Oktober had got to.
