I have just bought for my son one of those Yellow cranes previously sold at Lydl from Morrisons , it uses 4 * AA batteries but specificaly states DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE ONES .. anyone know why.
-
Probably because 4 recargebels are only 4.8 volts and 4 dry cells are 6 volt
Proteus

use 5 rechargeables, gives 6 volts

Maybe they haves hares in EverReady, and want to encourage trade?!

There maybe an issue with high currents from rechargeables if the motors stall...... :-\
-
In its original toy application it might well be that because the controls are just switches worked by a rocker, it is conceivable that under fault conditions you could wind up with both forward and reverse demanded at the same time, resulting in a full short. As Martin has suggested, this could result in severely embarrassed wiring, and a release of the magic smoke from somewhere.
-
Took the risk ,and tried it anyway . Seems to work. (For Now)
On one of my first Futaba transmitters it had a dummy cell which could be removed to allow the use of rechargebles , but this has no space, although it would be easier enough to add one.
Just don't like buying batteries when I have a million lying around the house.
