Been 30 years since I made my last working model. Things have changed a bit since then.
Have nearly completed 1:72 PG 65 Saucy, still need to varnish the hull and tidy up inside.
Obtained most of the running gear from Deans Marine.
Kyte motor
6" prop shaft with oil filler
3 bladed brass prop
Marine 5 speed controller
1,4A 6V nicad battery
Universal prop shaft coupling
Existing kit rudder bonded to smaller rudder with resin
Futaba 2 channel radio.
Wasn't sure about the weathering but then thought what the hell I can always repaint.
Now need to try it in something larger than a bath.

One of my club members built one a number of years ago, he sailed it a couple of years ago at our club open day, it looked superb on the water and sailed very well.
Sold the one i was building in my builds section, found it very fragile....so as long as your careful with it you'll be fine.
Post some pictures when you do sail it for the first time!
Regards:Voyager.

Hi Voyager
Putting some more pics on as flash seems to have altered the colours a bit. These are earlier as you will notice by the mess.

Heres boat on maden voyage.

Hello from Veracruz, México
Great job, maybe a little bit of weight to make more stable at windy seas, a lost one because of that.
Best regards :D
-
Hi Godo
Thanks for remarks.
She is in fact ballasted with lead to the correct weight and waterline.
Did originally have a little to much weight in the bow , so moved some to the stern.

I saw some desk lights and mag glass in one picture, did you try with just them and no flash .Ive found flash on models not very good and that you don't get the same problems without with just desk lights that you would have got with film. You may have to just hold still a bit longer. Peter
-
Will try that.
Not to sure about holding the camera still for longer.
Need several whiskys to stop the shakes or it could just be my age. ???
Richard ;)
-
Give it a try I find it a lot better...same boat about holding long time.but film for digi camera is cheap I just take loads till I get one right. Peter

Richard some digital cameras have what they call "white balance" if you can adjust that on your camera it will compensate for the tungstan lights
Cheers

But I haven't got any tungsten lights Bob.

Richard ;)
Ordinary light bulbs are tungsten lights.

Yeah I know that but BobB wanted to show off so I thought I would humour him .
He doesn't remember a lot these days so you have to let him have his head when he does,
It's probably down to the fact he's been 65 for too long. ???
Richard ;)

My wife has been 29 for 35 years so why shouldn't I stay at 65 for as long as I like :P by the way Richard like the look of your Corvette hope mine comes out half as good as that I been building it for about a month now , but must admit I'm not good with plastic kits .
Cheers
BobB ( not really 65 just kidding )

If you get stuck Bob get in touch with one of us youngsters and we'll put you right.
What motor etc are you using?
Richard ;)

Volvo S80 opps sorry senior moment ................ Speed 400 to start with

I ot all my bits from Deans Marine and they were spot on.
The only thing I've changed is the battery. They suggested 6V nicad which was fine, but I felt it needed a little bit more on a windy day so I am going to try out 7.2 nicad
Have only run it in the tank so far but definately gives more oomph.

Hello Richard,
My 1/72 corvette was powered by a mabuchi 385 motor direct driving through a Huco coupling. The speed control was a Bob's Board and I used a 1400mah 7.2v racing nicad pack.
It was good for over 30 min sailing time. I usually got bored before the battery went flat. ;)

I have a Deans Marine Kyte motor. Great motor,
Marine5 Esc
7.2V nicad that I have borrowed from my Subaru [Tamiya] Left running in tank it lasted about 2.5 hours
Richard ;)
-
Richard,
If you got 2.5 hours in a tank no wonder I got bored before the nicad went flat :o. I used to run the Graupner smoke generator off it as well. Will dig out the CD and post photos of mine.
Is the marine 5 a MTroniks ESC, I have used their buggy ones before in my various Tamiya cars and buggies. Which Subaru have you got?
Clive

Hi Clive
The Marine 5 is a Deans Marine one made for their boats.
While the corvette was in the tank I was working on my schutze,
1:10 Subaru impreza the old one.

Have made the Robbe Schultze minesweeper and Robbe PT 15 [ both in the warship build section ] since the corvette and have still to make the George Turner MTB, a Dickie tugboat conversion and an American gunboat of the Vietnam era which has an ABS hull and a scratchbuilt superstructure, O0
