Title: Upscaling plans
Post by: J.beazley on September 13, 2008, 03:40:17 pm
Had a scout about the forum and had no luck so here goes.

Ive been given a set of plans for a boat that are well how to put it just not BIG enough, is there anywhere i can go to get these plans enlarged to a much better size of vessel.
The plans are printed on a A1 sheet but making the boat about 28inches long which is too small. The boat plans need to be blown up to make the boat about 42inches long or there abouts.

Any ideas ??

Jay

Most copy shops are able to produce enlargements, but you'll be on your own for the wood sizes. I live in Finland, and have had large aircraft drawings printed off at around €20 a sheet. Probably cheaper in countries with more people in them!

As Dave S says take them to a copy shop and specify how much you want them enlarged, in your case by 50%; make sure they understand by 50% and not to 50%

Best of luck

CallKwik (sic) or Prontaprint are two I know. Check your yellow pages/google for office supplies places. Staples copy but I'm not sure about resizing, especially at the size you want. However, they might know a man who can  O0

Decide the size of a tile that would enlarge to A4.  Scan the drawing in based on tiles this size.  Print them to fill A4.  Sellotape together, big plan.

Regiment,

What size copier does your estate agent have? Jay wants to copy an A1 plan that's 8 times bigger than A4.

Malcolm,

That's a lot of scanning and quite a bit of maths, but hey if it works for you  8)

Wicked cheers for that bigford will get myself over there monday and see what they can do for me.

There isnt a scale on the plans so your guess is as good as mine on that one.
3foot wide by how ever long it comes out would be fine.

A service that handles architectural plans will cope with whatever size you want it scaled up to. One set for a Bunker boat I had printed was on 4ft by any length paper. Presumeably available in the UK i doubt it would be an aussie only size.

Standard paper sizes outside the US.  The letter denotes the width/height ratio, the number gives the size, smaller numbers, bigger size.

And once you know A4 is 297 by 210 mm you can work out the other sizes. Multiply by the square root of two for A3, same again for A2 etc.

...ooops. Though it's better if you go down the way. A0 has an area of one square metre, and has edges X and root(2)*X. So A4 has an area of one sixteenth a square metre - 210.224mm by 297.302mm.

Damien Mate,

Apparently all the good photocopy places are in the SE suburbs. I have plans at 1:96 and 1:192 that I want enlarged to 1:72 scale. So far I have been told that if I had a digital copy - no problems, but I have the paper version.

Where do you suggest???
