Title: Seabex One - Graupner
Post by: ciw2932 on April 13, 2006, 05:38:04 pm: Hi, I am just returning to the wonderful world of models after a break of several years.

I am 60% through a static model of Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic Challenger II built from plans in an old copy of Model Boats.This model wetted my appetite and looking for a project to keep me going for the next 18 months or so I have decided upon the Graupner Seabex One.

I opted for Seabex due in part to its overall size (1450 x 260mm) but mainly due to the number of toys on board, helicopter, deck cranes fire nozzles etc. To me (at the moment? :)) the fun is in the build rather than the sailing so I am looking forward to adapting the model to become unique - lots of great ideas at the moment but transferring the ideas to operational systems will be the challenge.

I will endeavour to keep some sort of photographic journal of the build, but would be great to hear from anybody else who is working on this to share ideas and solutions !!

Have a look at www.themodeldock.co.uk they are setting up a Seabex One Club may be of some use.

The full size Seabex One has a new owner and has been renamed VSO Venturer. If you search for VSO Venturer on the net loads of sites come up with details of her operations and where she has been working.

Hope this helps I will be interested in any photos of the build and how to get the crane working.

from the pic it doesnt look promising, but that might just be me.
always fancied the Seabex but the price of everything once built put me off a little.

Seeing as the Seabex is a diver support vessel, maybe she's going about welding up a holed hull plate or two before the neppie sinks....I think the crane may have just lowered dewatering gear, or so one would hope!
They need to deploy some containment booms before the green stuff goes awash, too.

I bought a graupner seabex one and a billings calypso both part built(nothing above the decks),I.m going to do the seabex kit first would like to make it all singing and dancing to.I have run yachts and fast electrics before but this is the first time for scale boats for me

as the seabex uses two speed controllers are there any cheaper ones than the graupner navy v40r as these are expensive to buy I,m sure someone has tried others and could let other people know if they are any good

There is lots of differant makes of speed controllers available
that are cheaper than the graupner speed controller
If you look in the electronics section there is plenty on offer.
I would check the rating of the motors you intend to use
as 40A I think is a bit high for the seabex so you
may be able to use smaller rated ones and then it may save you
some money
