Would anyone have an idea as to what the prototype might be for this fibreglass hull? I bought it on a whim and I'm now struggling to find a vessel to base my model on. I know the guy has sold quite a few of them so there must be some completed models around somewhere, can anyone give me some pointers?

I would of thought any ocean going tug would be compatable with that hull.
Try doing a Google search for 'Ocean tugs'.. something will catch your eye.. ;)

Hello Andy!
What about a tug called "Wilhelmine"? Google "Tug Photos" and look under "W" In the gallery. The tug was registered in Hamburg. It seems to have a very similar shaped hull to the one you have and would make an unusual and attractive tug. Even the superstructure is fairly simple. Hope this helps.

I have the same hull, it's been sitting on the shelf in my shed for a while, still dont know what to make with it. I was toying with the idea of an early sixties diesel type tug,, (I used to work on them), although it would have to be made up as I go along. in saying that Simon's suggestion of the Whilhelmine looks good, just cut the gunwhales ect to move them forward a bit, sould be ok.

Glad I'm not the only one, It's a nice hull & could build up to a great boat. The seller calls it a traditional steam tug, I can't find a steamer that looks anything like it :-\
I was thinking of a 50s/60s diesel job myself but I like the look of Simons suggestion above. I'll have to bid on a few more of them :D

Went looking through my files and came up with a few tugs that have similar hulls that yours might be used as a starting point. The shape of yoir hull suggests something of an open sea or barge tug as opposed to a harbour tug. It also looks to modern to fit the "steam tug" category.
The pictures I'm posting have been posted on a Yahoo forum called "tugboats". Its made up, mostly, of professional tug mariners. However, they are most helpful to modelers when properly approached. The tug photos the put out number in the thousands. The pictures I'm posting have come from that site.

Glad to be of assistance Andy! I spent some time last night hunting through tug photos from all over the place and the one I found was the only vessel to have that shape of hull! Luckily it is a good looking tug and would make a lovely and unusual model. If you decide to build it why not post a thread on the forum with your progress? It would be great to see it!

Truckers would love those exhaust pipes though.
As a trucker I can only agree!!! but they need to be chrome!
And what is all this about sea legs and a seatbelt, all you need is a big bucket ;)
