I'm thinking about a distraction for my 17 y.o. son, i like the Yamato, what plastic kits are out there there?
So far I've found:
Tamiya - 1:350
DOYUSHA 1:250
Nichimoco 1/200

How about the Tamiya 1:350 kit http://www.emodels.co.uk/plastic-kits/product_info.php?products_id=12682 (http://www.emodels.co.uk/plastic-kits/product_info.php?products_id=12682)

Good Plan!
I got an un-named one for £12 in my local pound shop - complete with poor motor and even worse 1 into 4 gearbox this was for my 10-year -old (at the time)
Makes up well - very stable and impressive on the water
We have filled the entire front half with a foam buoyancy block, so she will float higher than the iceberg anyway

Because it is, thats why!

Have they got another one Andrew?.... or two? :-)
-
Sadly, Martin it was about 3 years ago at this time of year when they had them - they also had kits of CVN (USS Enterprise, I think), at the same scale, and a large "galleon" kit, all at reasonable prices.
They have had them in from time to time since, at slightly higher prices,, but still 1/4 of the giong price in a "model" shop, and they include the motor, geabox and running gear, too.
The shop is Fords Discount Stores in Lutterworth - I drop in when I'm passing - I'lll let you know if there are kits there

Andrew,
You paid £12???? That 2nd photo looks identical to the 1/200 Nichimo kit that I'm slowly backdating to its 1941 configuration. What is the scale?
If I were to do this over, I'd go with the Tamiya 1/350. Smaller, but better detailed & a lot easier on the wallet. Besides, you have plenty of other IJN & USN vessels to run alongside her should you ever want to expand the fleet. :-))

All right Chuck, do I have to sik the Gate Keeper or maybe a couple of the CAT's <*< <*< on you to get back to work on the Iron Clad? ;D ;)

Over yonder in Portland Oregon

Andre,
Am still working on Manhattan & Tennessee, although slowly. Will post some new pics soon once I get the turret & guns finished - am lacking several valves for a talcum firing cannon. Yamato is on the back burner waiting her turn.

Found a few more...
Tamiya - 1:350
DOYUSHA 1:250
Nichimoco 1/200
1/250 Arii Yamato IJN Battleship
-
I have just made a lightning sweep through the pound shop whare I got Yamato - no Yams or CVNs, but they have a 1/100 galleon for £27.00
Looks mid-17th Century. They do have tanks 1/72 and sailing ships 1/350 - several varieties, but I think that this size of square-rigger is beyond even 1gm servos

Well I can't find any name on the box - nor in the instruction booklet!

I see that my box appears identical to the Tamiya box and manual!
How about this little toy boat
http://www.wmunderway.8m.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1200112206
Its all very do-able for very little money. The best way of getting it to a meeting might be along canals and rivers :}
You might be able to fit your 17-year-old inside, Martin! This would economise on radio batteries

I seem to remember that argos used to do something simalar to the other Andy's, because I had one at one stage when I was small (I was never small actually...), don't have a clue if they still do though...
