Have any Mayhemmers wondered what other individuals or clubs Lakes or ponds look like? I thought i might start the ball rolling with the famous New Brighton Lake. Probably with the most picturesque scene of any Lake. Unless of course you know better! (the other martin)
-
Er now just a minute. I think this view is pretty good......The "lake" may be small but oh boy what a view.... :-))
-
Here is the Potteries Model Boat Club lake....

Well, we do see REAL ships coming and going, nither do we get our feet wet and muddy or have to bend down to put the model in the water.
It is due for replacement soon anyway.

Go on ., How was that picture taken of the NewBrighton Pond ??
-
The Ship Modelling Society sail at the Boat Museum Ellesmere Port when we have a launch day.
-
"How was that photo taken?" Probably the same way as this one of ONE of my "ponds" %)!!
-
I dare't post picks of Fleetwood lake..............must be the grot spot of the north at the moment.
No wonder the local council are making moves to fill in the paddling pool at the end for a children's play area right next to a 5 foot deep lake.....Health and safety...now there's good town and country planning for you. :embarrassed: {-) %%what planet do these councillors that make the decissions live on.I ask you??? >>:-( >>:-(
-

My guess is with a camera. Either that or he's really good with th crayons! {-)
-
Very Good ;D
My impression is that the newBrighton photo is taken at least 30 ft in ther Air and I do not recall a tower there .
-
Probably from one of the blocks of flats across the road.
That big lake is certainly magnificent, plenty of long voyages to be undertaken there but, i doubt if you will get proper seagoing conditions as on Windermere. Lots of lakes like that in oz as well, every time i mentioned it in her earshot, the reply was along the lines of was that all I thought of, little did she know.................. ;)
LB
-
Possibly but from the angle of the shot I would say Unlikely , the nearest block is over a quarter of a mile away, just wondered if it was taken using one of those flycam2 cameras and a helicopter or something as it seems a pretty good shot..Come on Garston spill the beans.
-
Not good enough quality for a Fly-Cam but an R/C heli or a mast or pole is my bet. The photo in my last post was taken from a remotely piloted vehicle (model plane :embarrassed:)
-
Ok enough guessing. The Council were by the lake checking the road lighting and i asked if i could go up in their Cherry picker. You've gorra ask haven't you?
-
P.S. Ok there are some nicer places to sale your boats than New Brighton lol

Tony,
That brings back a few memories. Sailed there a few times as guest of Fred Wood. Is he still there?
Barry

Barry,
There's a name from the past. I haven't seen sight or sound of him for a while, having said that I am not the most regular attending member. Do you remember the fabulous 'Titanic' which he built. It was a featured item in a newspaper, when on its maiden voyage it lost control and ran into some overhanging 'weeping willow' branches on the opposite side of the lake before hitting the concrete bank. Fortunately the damage was not to severe, and Fred ironed out the snags. This was a fabulous model and I managed to snap the camera. Somewhere I still have this pic and I will post when found.
Do you remember the previous club which sailed either vane or braine racing yachts, before the days of r/c? This was before the 1960's, and the concrete banks where made.
Tony.

Hi Tony,
I do remember Fred's Titanic but am much too young to remember pre 1960's.......
For me Fred's best was his scratch built "Yamato". An incredible model built by a great man...
I would love to see some piccies of that Titanic..

This is a photo of our lake, in Ballina, northern NSW, taken during our annual regatta back in June 2005. A beautiful winter's day.

This is Tiger Hole just up the road from where I live, one of four lakes that I sail within 7km of my home. Taken yesterday afternoon during our first break from the rainy & windless days we've been seeing for the past few weeks. Another Tiger, who happens to moderate this forum, can attest to the weather we've had lately.. >:-o
Best part of this location is that its in the local Sofitel resort & the management has no problem with us using their lake - yesterday I trooped through their conference center past dozens of bemused onlookers carrying my sailboat & a submarine to the car park. :} We typically sail off their cafe's deck where we enjoy FB service - not quite as charming as West Lake's tea houses, but the food is better.

hi all our lake we sail here every sunday in the summer some of us sail mid week

Helou from Nordic
Below of 2 ponds we normally use in winter time, Pickala pond and Deepthroat Pond. Both them are winter swimming places, so stream water by pumps, keeping it open for us very well!

It looks like a very nice lake. Curiosity gets the better of me. What is the line 2/3 across from the left? I thought it might be a power cable but I can't see any pylons etc.
Cheers

Two pics from our lake, Bille-Rückhalte-Becken in Hamburg. Second pic is the launchside.

BLACK PARK.
-
Hi John , we are down at the pond every saturday , morning for a tidy up and afternoon for a sail although there are some of us that use it during the week when its quieter and there are no critical eyes , sometimes boats do go wrong :D .
All visitors are welcome but children must be acompanied for safety reasons etc , if your motor is a big rig then you can even park it along the road ,most of the drivers do overnight without problems .

New Brighton is losing their lake within the next week. Made in the 30s it's now going the way of progress. The new one will be about 20 yards away and should be ready by Summer.
