Title: Perishin' fly tippers dump anything!
Post by: das boot on November 14, 2008, 08:03:11 pm
We had a call about a 'lump of metal' dumped at the edge of one the beach car parks, and seeing as how I was closest I was "volunteered" to go check it out.

{-) {-) {-) It measures at least 8 feet long,  {-)  {-) God knows how much it weighs  :o

I think someone was having a giraffe. Needless to say I left it in situ.....  %)

Rich, why didn't you save it to hang off the bows of your next model.   8)

I did think of hanging it up in the cab as a mascot, but it wouldn't go in the door...

Dear Rich,

You do realise how much it's worth don't you?! If I was you I would go back there hot foot/asap, take it home and put it on eBay for £100! :-)) Even if you took it to a scrap merchant, the right one will pay you based on £150 per ton for heavy scrap! - but it's worth much more than scrap to the right person (garden decoration etc., etc.).

You wanna try shifting it Bernard...even the local pikies don't attempt to move it. Lord knows what it weighs, and he's not letting on.

The name's Simpson, not Sampson....

It could be sussex version of the guy, who made those people and stuck them on beach,
more nautical, than some guy up to his n**s in the sea.
If you see it on ebay, you know i made it with the lorry to recover  %)

Where there's a will there's a way! :} By the size you say it is it must be worth about £200 then, so even if you have to pay someone £50 cash to winch it up it's worth the effort! :-)) A local recovery garage might do it for cash as a 'fill in job'?

Bernard!! Are you even remotely suggesting that I would stoop so low as to go and nick the thing?   %) Now would I?

Dear Rich,

Perish the thought! :-) Look, if you have been told/asked to get rid of the thing there are two ways about it: 1), Charge them to get rid of it (viz. get paid £50 to get it off the beach and it's yours to sell for whatever - thus no cost to you: or, & 2), Remove it yourself to your profit. If the former, well, one might make a donation to the Parish/Town Council, if the latter, well, it's justly all your profit. Who cares, it is wanted off the beach, who else is going to do it and who cares who makes what out of it??? - unless you want to contribute all the funds resulting to the Parish Council??? - either and all ways someone makes money out of it... and if someone doesn't, someone else shortly will!!!!!!!

Ok, time to come clean methinks....the call was made by a visitor to my patch who didn't understand what the anchor was doing just laying on the beach as it is. It's been there for years, so I'm told, came from a wrecked vessel and was placed in it's present position, why that was I know not, but there it is and there it's been for years.

I'm led to believe that it's attached to a chain which is sunk into a bed of concrete, although I never verified that. It looks heavy and I wasn't about to digging underneath it to prove that!

I think it looks nice, personally...if I had a garden I may (just possibly) think about relocating it, but I guess the Parish Council and the Thin Blue Line would probably take exception to that idea...

As they say in all the best places...anchors away?

Dear Rich,

I am amazed that in this PC world someone hasn't said it's a health hazard! I think it good to see such things on the foreshore. However if they want it moved they want it moved I suppose, but as long as it goes to a good home... viz., yours! :-))
