Title: bridge nav lights

does anybody know if P&S where fitted in pairs.The idea being to have one emergency standbye?

On older ships there was always a separate oil lamp mounted as a backup to the electric one and you can often see them mounted one above the other. No doubt there is some sort of backup on modern vessels too but I'm not sure what it is.

thanks Colin...its Deans Zulu...and there is two lights for each side supplied....I have looked at an old photo of her and i think i can make out duplicate light fittings.

Bulbs with multiple filaments were one answer. Some unmanned tows would have electric lights (battery powered) with automatic bulb changers. All manned vessels have nav. bulb failure alarms.

Modern ships have 2 sets, one above the other.
They are 2 seperate systems and run on different voltages, but the same wattage bulbs.
