Title: 'Mother Russia' goes public.

Here's a couple of pics of 'Mother Russia', she's still taped together at the moment, but it gives you an idea of what she looks like.
It's a Robbe Sea Wolf, with a different sail, different bow planes and extra deck detail added. She will be a static(ish)diving boat if all goes well...

Nice idea Richard, should look the nuts when it's finished - how are you making her static? - I'm pressuming water pump.

Got a couple of ideas Paul...water pump with a small tank under the battery pack, or an air pump with a small balloon tucked away under the deck, although there's not much room under there for a bag or a balloon, it may have to go in the sail if I go down that road.

When I did my U47  / HMs Graph conversion a few years back, I fitted a bag (Section of childs swimming Arm band) inside a 500ml fuel tank in the centre of the tech tray & simply pumped water in, worked really well.

What did you use for a pump Paul? I have one of those fifteen quid Halfords screenwasher pumps, it works very well it seems. I'd not thought of fitting a bag in a tank, I like that one.

Great looking version of the Seawolf.  Far more convincing as a model than the standard kit and should produce a reliable and stable model, as is the original.

Well thank you for the kind words BB, much appreciated. Hopefully the static dive system will work properly, it worked in my domestic indoor submarine testing facility just now, so I hope it works in the boat as well....

Bit of a refit needed...oops! Got it wrong, dad... :embarrassed:

Water pump and ballast tank installed properly in position now, just the plumbing to re do. The pump batteries will fit(just)under the tank, main power battery will have go out in the free flood area.

Apologies for the crap pic, I'll try again tomorrow in daylight.

I used one of the small red ones - but very similar to the one you used, the good thing about using the bag is that when you dive you automatically put positive pressure in the WTC, the tank keeps the water contained - it's a good idea to make the bag capacity more than the tank, this stops over filling & possible disaster!

There is a range of indestructible water bags used by runners under the Platypus brand.  they would be ideal and they are puncture proof.  Available in 0.5L 1.0L and 2.0L  they even have a scew top and a drinking tube that can go directly onto a pump.

Bag's dead easy to get hold of - kiddies armband & cut one section away down the seams & connect a tube to the inflator - make sure you bypass the valve by pushing a bit of 4mm brass tube through it or the water wont come out!.

I onnected my pump o an ESC, so yes it was reversable, there wasn't much room for a pinching device so the ESC would be set to "tick over" to hold the water in the bag, when switched off she would re surface in about 10 seconds - We're using the same principal with a ballast tank in the revell Gatos.

If the bag is inside a tank, you would never fill it to capacity, a Lucozade bag may be ideal for a smaller boat - Trumpeter Seawolf for example?

A Platipus bag costs about £4  If you flood your sub you loose £600, go ahead use Lucosade bags  :-))

I have used both the Lucozade bag and the Platipus bag when out walking
I think the platipus is the better for throwing about in a bag
the Lucozade one was a bit too flimsy for me

I know it is notbeing used in the way you intend but thought I should say :-))

Gingyer...that sounds sort of interesting? I'm wondering what use you had for the bags whilst out walking...or don't I want to know?   :D  %)

Anyway, here's the ballast system installed, just need to source a bag. I'll probably be able to find one laying about somewhere tomorrow...don't ask, OK?

'Mother Russia' has gone more than public, she will soon be on her way to darkest Yorkshire  {:-{ Sad to see her go, but the door is now open for the 1/32nd scale U-441(U Flak1) to arrive on the slipway.
