OK I need help what sort of grease should I use on the shaft seals for my sub, I have just replaced the originals and do not want to run them dry...
Any help will be appreciated...

Silicone grease (less viscous) or Vaseline :)

Hi Mankster thanks for that, but as previously stated it washes/wears off quite quickly, surely there has to be a better solution...

Silicone is good at the push rod seals and propshaft (depending on how tight a fit you have), and vaseline works better for me at the endcaps. Silicone seams to be more 'slippery' and my encaps try to slide out more easily, but it dries up quickly on the endcap seals after a few insertions/removals.

Had a phone call from a mate over here who is a German engineer, and he says he has some grease that will not wash off and will do the job perfectly, I have no idea what it is called at this time but I will be sailing with him on Saturday and will let you know, could be a good thing....

as every one else silicone or vaslene,you wont go far wrong...al

... the trouble with the silicone-grease is, once on you`ll never will get it away. Any repair with 2-K glue or paint refurbishing will definately lead to err...... :P
Anyway, the silicone grease is good enough for propshafts, but I doubt that it will keep under pressure if you go into the deep (DIVEDIVEDIVE!).
Just me penny....

Try a search on sub committee but I think its silicone lubricant that is used. I have seen it in a tube and a can. You need the tube which is a little thicker. You need something that is safe on the enviroment and holds a seal. I think there might be some high pressure lubricant used but could be hard to find. Be careful with vaseline it might breakdown the rubber seals if used.
