I have almost completed my latest project on my RTR Southampton, hopefully I will post my modification photos over the next few days. After disassembling it into about 50 pieces, fitting a new esc, Graupner water pump with two fire monitors, a complete respray and a few more bits & pieces, I was wondering if anyone else has modified one and if they have, would you be kind enough to post some photos and comments please. As I said I will endeavour to post my photos asap. Kind regards, Dan.

How many screws holding down the deck?
What pump did you use for the monitors?

I have been undecided whether or not to buy one of these, for the coming summer sailing season. Now my mind is made up. Out comes the credit card, credit crunch or not.

Theres a chap on here who can help you with the manoverability problem :-) , looks good though fine job you have made there .
I have one , although i have not changed the structure detail i did extend the rudders , makes a bit of difference.

I went for the extended rudders as well. They certainly help improve the turning circle, but manouevering astern is still hit and miss. Need twin ESC control for that.
Ghostie's the man for info on that, all posted on here already, I think.
Even though I've since moved on to bigger and better tugs, my Heighton (ex Southampton) is still great fun to sail and tow with.

I was thinking of doing this, does your tug heal over when turning on full rudder ? I thought that with the heavier battery and water pump installed onto the lower hull it would have given it a lower centre of gravity, I should have tried the boat on the water when I got her but didn't !! I have seen a photo on here somewhere of an up-turned Southampton and given a few light waves on the pond I can see why it turned !! Regards, Dan
that upturned southampton was mine, the flip was caused by me fighting a 100lb barge! barge won and rolled me over with the towline. she is PERFECTLY BALLANCED! if you want to get more rudder throw, adjust the linkage, and move it to the outermost hole on the rudders. also I find that when I swapped reciever as well to a futaba one, it got more throw.
I have since modified mine to spin on a dime!

does it tip over NO! , i have tried yes she dips the back end in when turning sharply and like Andy said bad on reversing . I have even tried to capsize it by going over the wake of a larger model but all she does is rock n roll a bit like a weeble , if your still worried glue some lead in the bilge . Dan i will measure the extentions for you .
