Which bit of the word "probably" do you suppose he's having problems with? Just because one has fundamental beliefs doesn't make them right - or any more valid than someone else's fundamental beliefs. I guess he's just another of those people who can tolerate anything except intolerance.
As for the bus company, however, "insensitive" hardly begins to describe their attitude. "Well it is legal, mate, and this geezer held me arm up me back and forced twenty pound notes into me 'and to stick it on the buses, so I thought it was awright............."
On balance I think they deserve each other.

"Probably" is almost certainly too long for this guy, as he seems unaware that it allows for the opposite.
In any case, I would be against any form of religious advertising, for or against, in any public place, with the exception of the walls of designated buildings dedicated to whatever religion, on the grounds that any business should be able to declare itself.

There has been pro-Christian advertising on buses and the London Underground for very many years. I am not aware of other religious advertising apart from one of those mind infiltration groups which does not declare it is a Christian group but in fact is. I think Scientology church also advertises.
If someone finds some attribute of their employment unacceptable then they and/or their employer have a problem.
I think the Methodist Church comment is enlightened.
Despite being an atheist I think the whole business of such advertising to be a waste of time and money as most folk never bother thinking about such things. Confrontation usually results in doors slamming and confirming folk in entrenched views.

I have never understood why this sort of thing should even need to be advertised? But then again these days EVERYTHING is advertised if its legal. I wonder what the outcome would have been if it was an atheist bus driver refusing to drive a bus with the slogan "there probably is a god" plastered on the side of it? I notice Richard Dawkins is backing the advertising campaign. Has anyone ever read his book "The God Delusion" Its about as dry as a mouth full of riveta!
I had an enlightened moment when sitting on the 'pot' at the age of 7 or 8. That was when i became an atheist i just didn’t know there was a name for it at the time.

I am sorry you found it dry, I thought there was some wonderful humour in it in places. I am glad to say that some who have reviewed the book professionally also thought there to be some fun bits.
Largely I found it easy to read and follow but my re-reading was about rediscovering the arguments I could not always follow.
Oh, by the way, I am not driving a bus tomorrow because it is red and red is the colour of socialism.

going back to red being the color of socialism, yes that may be true, USSR, Peoples Republic of China, Peoples Republic North Korea, all socialist / communist republics, all have red flags, and on that note maybe britain has a hint of socialism too, just look at our maritime ensign, its RED. and besides, Tiger tiger will know this, the chinese see red as a LUCKY color

Your right. There is alot of that. I agreed with most of what he said too. Just not my kind of read...... Shantaram now theres a book.

I've read most of Dawkins' books (they aren't about atheism per se). Whether you agree with him or not on belief, he is a top rate scientist wit the gift of being able to explain complex issues (see Climbing Mount Improbable) and his mind operates at a level far above most of us.Yet he still has a wicked sense of humour.
If you like his writing style you will probably also like Richard Fortey, author of Trilobite! and other books. Nothing about atheism or anything like that but he writes about geology and fossils, which most people would regard as being a supremely boring subject, in a fasciinating way which gives an amazing perspective of geological time and our insignificant place in it. http://www.acampbell.ukfsn.org/bookreviews/r/fortey-2.html

Seriously though, these books are an eye opener as so many people these days just seem to live in the present which gives them a rather one dimensional view of life. There's just so much more out there if you take the trouble to look for it.

Whilst you're all in a philosophical mood - I've just been watching the rather depressing news on the TV about Gaza.
Could someone please explain to me why the conflict is between the Israelis (as a nation) and Hammas (as a militant group).
Surely the Palestinian government should be involved somewhere?
I mean - if Dicky started launching missiles at Roger, would not the British government, and this counties police act to stop him, rather than wait until Roger and his mates retaliated by driving tanks into Southampton?
Does anyone know what the Palestinians' reponse is?
Just curious and don't know enough to take "sides". {:-{ {:-{

Because in those countries there is no so called police force,they just run around streets with guns,even there governments are scared off them,
they just want to kick ++++ out of each other to see who wins.

Hamas IS the Government, they were elected in free and democratic elections.
Rather like the State of Israel where there "Freedom Fighters" threw grenades in bars frequented by British Servicemen who were there to set up the State of Israel under severe US pressure after WW2.
Ariel Sharon was a so called "Freedom Fighter".
There is one theory that the imminent change of US President led to this action as the President Elect is not known for his Israeli Sympathies.
