Title: Billings trawler, which one?
Post by: roycv on January 21, 2009, 11:26:54 am
Hi all, looking for the kit experts!
I have a part built Billings kit of a trawler, there are no plans.  Measurements 32 inches loa x 8 inches beam.
Photo shows it as it is, I have fittings motor etc, I think it is at least 20 years old but not able to find picture on Internet to identify her.
Would appreciate help identifying her and if plans are available may try and finish her.
regards to all, Roy

Not the Nordkap - Nordkap only has one opening - all the superstructure is at the stern.

I'm fairly certain it's not the Nordkap. I recently built one, and it did not look like the photos shown. Below is a shot of mine under construction, and it can be seen that the deck is quite different from the one in the photo.

i think billing did one some years ago called "Nordencutter" which was about that size it was a larger version of the smaller 22" crabbencutter,
it was discontinued years ago though, mores the pity. :(( {:-{

Hi!
I think it's the "Mary Ann". Haven't checked if they still produce it. There was another fishing vessel as well with the same hull, Cux something. I think.  :embarrassed:

Derek it's a Proxxon KS230, I'm not sure if it's referred to as a "Junior".

Hi Canute, I am beginning to wonder if my hull is of Progress as the deck cut outs do seem different from the picture of your model.
Very nice by the way.

Can you look at my original picture and tell me what you think?
regards Roy

Hi, I might be able to help a little.

Billing Boats have over the years showed different details and versions of their boats, and even the meassures is mentioned a little different, so an excact meassuring in centimeters might help.

Of the larger trawlers Billings have also used different names for the same boats, but basicly they only made two.

Progress, Flevo and Trawler was the names used for more or less the same boat, and this should be 81cm long and 20 or 21 cm wide (I have catalogues giving both widths).

I have a very old picture of the Trawler, that looks different from the Progress, but still have the same name visible on the name plate on the super structure, so they changed the look too.

Nordkap is the other larger one, and is in an old catalogue stated to be 81.5 long and 19.5 (sometimes only 19) cm wide, - meaning slimmer than the others.

Regards
Steffen

Roy, from what I can remember the basic hull lines look identical, but you are right, the deck is different. I remember buying this kit at quite a discount because the kit was missing some pieces. I did not buy the fittings kit so most of the upper deck bits and pieces were picked up separately or from the scrap box. Cheaper that way. The plans are long gone but if you need any measurements or close up photos just let me know. It was my first of three Billings models I have built. Lots of fun. You have done a great job on the hull and are we looking at having it in the water this summer?
