Is there anyway a marker pen can be made to last longer than a couple of weeks unused?
Every time I put one in the drawer for next time it is bone dry, even If its out in the workshed or in the kitchen.
Silly i know but it gets expensive after a while
Is there a way to bring them back from the dead so to speak ?
Ideas appreciated.

Mine seem to last well over a year.
Have you tried switching brand?
Dumb question, do you replace the lids?

I find the tips dry out and are hard to revitalise. So, I try to store mine vertically, tip down.

I'll try tip down but was a bit apprehensive about them leaking, mind you saying that i may have tried that.
But is there any possible getting them to work again ?
TT what brand do you use, knowing the missus it is the cheapest ones possible.

Cheapest possible may be the problem.
If it is cheapest chinese rubbish then you get what you pay for. These are the cheap ones often found in supermarkets or down the market.
I have used pens a lot, any resonalbe brand is worth the extra money. And the good brands are better value, they do last longer. Or so I have found.
I have also found the good ones can be recovered if you accidentally leave the lid off. By placing the lid back on, leave them tip down and leave for 24 hours.

Edding and Nobo are good makes, steer clear of "own brands" as they dry up BEFORE you take the tops off %)

I use Pentel N50 , seem to work for ever, however they do have quite a strong addictive smell. :}

I ahve a bunch of Pentel Sign pens I bought in 2000. Pulled on out fo the box last month. Stil works. :D

I got a Pentel Pen but its dry now but looks like it was a good age as the body with its dents and scratches say so.
To revitalise, try a drop or two of Meths! says Martin now you know i don't drink but I'll try it on the pen. l.o.l.

I use these , not cheap but they tend to last ages as long as you don't dip them in oil and will stay on glass metal etc Oh and wood

If it is a an alcohol based maker, wiping with spirits or alcohol will remove the dried pigment on the tip. As Martin said some times and depending in the pigment used.
Making sure that the cap is snapped closed is the single most important thing before storing tip down.

:-)I've Got some Berol Toughpoint pens that are 2 or 3 years old and still going strong...When they runout, the plastic tube's make great funnels & if you cutout the felt tips. the black felt tip holder in the end makes a good funnel cap ( pry it 1 or 2mm out of the end of the tube.

Aye I keep all that type of stuff to. :-)) :-)) Its like a Blue Peter Studio round here, if it wasn't for the missus.
But saying that the amount of times I've kept something for years and put it out to the dump, I could have used it the next day.
The old shed was bearable today, a bit milder has helped.

It has to be a "Sharpie" every time for me, quite a few colours now and they last forever :-))

Missus got a couple from work. I found one in the 'lets put it here and I'll know where it is for the next time'. She bought a couple at shops the other days. so I am sorted. If I can only remember where they are when I need one. But them drying out on me I'll just have to live with.

I've a Berol white board marker, pinched from work 15 yrs ago still going strong.......
Just used it outside in the shed still works fine in this cold weather (Its a permament marker, not a white board)

If you want REAL permanent, get yourself a paintpen, used for marking up metal or WHY.
I've had my white one for about 15 years, use it all the time, never dries up, and when I shake it, sounds like there is a few years in there yet.

Agreed, Felt tipped paint markers are great, Ships engineers use them for marking oily or greasy oil drums and spare parts it dosen;t wash off or fade like the ink ones
