Hope it mellows as it crosses the Tasman, we didn't cool off had to tough it out room aircon spat the dummy when room temp hit 32C had a 1/2 hour break started and ran for 5 mins then quit, was this cycle midday until 9pm been running constant nearly 2hrs and room temp is just over 30C, low overnight expected to be 29C another sleepless night, as you say roll on winter.
I haven't seen a frost for 4 or 5 years, climate is definately warming up.

Just hold off on the winter :-) - I will be in Oz in 10 days time and NZ at the beginning of March. If you want cold, get over here! They originally forecast a mild February, now they are saying that the cold weather could last through the month {:-{

I envy you guys down under. Here in Southern Ontario there's 3 feet of snow on the ground and more coming. Todays balmy high is minus 7 degrees C.

We have record temperatures here too.

It is about 12-13 degrees C here. Two weeks ago was minus 8.

We should have had snow before now.

There has been no precipitation for months now. The dirt is turning to dust.
The farmers are really worried.

The largest part of China's economy is still agricultural. There are 40 million peasants (income less than $250 per year) who rely on farming.

Damien.... telling us frozen Europeans something about temperatures above the 10 degrees Celsius and blues skys is a shame. I would claim Martin to handle that as the WORDS-NOT-ALLOWED.....  {-) {-) {-) *shiver* (as we have minus3 degrees now and a *§%&ß* North-Eastern blowing....

Up here, on the beautiful north east coast of NSW, it's hardly gone above 30 Celsius, with lovely cooling sea breezes  8)  O0  {-)

Oh dear, it's raining now  <:( , never mind, it'll be sunny again tomorrow  :-)) (Sorry Neil  :D )

Peter.

PS: The hot conditions in the southern part of Australia appear to be caused by a high pressure system, funnelling hot winds down from the interior of the continent. Fortunately, we are not affected here - yet.

UPDATE
This afternoon it has started raining. Only light rain, but there will be many happier farmers in Central China tonight..

I'll tell you all something for free....being in a cold climate is a darn sight more comfortable than trying to live and work in a temp. of over 30*C. Of course there are extremes, but hot is more debilitating than cold. Apropos of nothing really, but does anyone remember the old song about a heat wave......"It ain't no sin to take off your skin, and dance around in your bones"....I'd prefer to put on a heavier sweater. Dave,
I couldn't agree with you more. I have relatives in Oz, it must be difficult for them, especially the elderly.
We all know, it is far easier to heat a building than to cool it.

Except for the number of dead I thought that you were talking about Southern California. When I lived in San Diego we regularly had  temperatures in the 100 to 110 range when the Santa Anna winds blew, Hot dry wind from the desert. Then the  >>:-( fires would start and not much of any thing could stop them till the wind changed.

Good Luck and I hope no ones house is in the fires path, my sister was only about 1/4 mile from the burn line in Escondido last fall.
