I see on the BBC website, the government is going to maintain a travel database. Will I be logged when I go to the Isle of Wight?

I think there will be more stories like this.
After the issue of the 'surveillance society' was raised in Parliament this week. May have been in the Lords.
So the media attention will be on it.

Several different ones, actually...........but not for everyone and not as a matter of course for the lucky few who've made the grade.

What's the rationale behind it? Let me guess, 'Crime' or 'Anti-terrorism'?
It's the thin end of the wedge.. like the DNA database that went from a sample at every 'conviction' to every 'arrest of a pre-set crime' to every 'arrest'. They won't stop until it's every 'new born'.

I have absolutely no objection to such databases or a DNA sample.

....I continue:
1. my credit card company advised me that my card was being used improperly in a country I was not in;
2. the same make and model of car I had bought was involved in a murder investigation, computer records eliminated me;
3. my dog was refused re-entry to the UK because of a hand written clerical error, a computer data base allowed me to travel.
I have nothing to hide. I also assure you that the UK will have to go a long way to match the surveillance by French authorities.

like you, roger, absolutely no objections.
my phylosophy is, if you aren't doing wrong, there's no need to worry.
and if we did have a child dna data base, people would think twice about kidnapping such little youngsters as Maddelaiine McCann, for whatever reason. <:( <:( <:(

My worry is the amount of data that gets lost, by those who should be able to offer the highest levels of security.
And there also seems to be little accountability. Electronic data can 'prove/show' information definitivley, as in the case with Roger's dog. Because of this, records on computers are less likely to be called into question. This leads to another worry. What if these records are stolen, or tampered with.
And how long before your personal data, or DNA records, or criminal records are off-shored to Nigeria. Because it is cheap.
