Title: HMS Sylvia
Post by: andyn on February 14, 2009, 01:31:02 pm
Anyone know of someone who makes a hull for Algerine class Fleet Minesweeper? In particular the HMS Sylvia

My grandad served on it and I would like to make one sometime.

Plans for an Algerine class (HMS Rattlesnake) are also available from Traplet Publications (or whoever it is that publishes the plans available from them). They're 1/192 scale which is maybe a bit small for R/C, but are quite detailed so could easily be scaled up.

Andyn, forgive me if I am wrong, but, did you or did you not ask if a hull was available? I think yes you did.
The Sirmar hull is only £75.50 and the plans I think are about 19 quid plus shipping. You don't have to buy the fittings with it. That is why Sirmar sells the fittings seperately so anyone can break the cost down over time.

The Deans marine HMS Marvel is at 1/96th scale and comes as a full kit as far as I know.

Yup thats what I though, but I still have to make all the rest of it, so I think I'm going for the deans one, another plus side is that it's 30" long, so I will be able to carry it to the lake.

Oh dont worry I will post photos.

I think Monday I shall give Sirmar a ring and get their plans ordered, even just for a look, and decide what to do from there.

After that, I've only got another 8 or so ships my grandad served on left to build, joy and bliss...

Now, where to get some money from....
