Many years ago My grandfather used a device attached to a blue camping gas cylinder he used to get the coal fire going more or less like a blow torch.
I am after one , Does anybody know what this might have been called and if so where I can get one from.

You may have a little problem getting one elf n safety ! best of luck there :-))
you could build one yourself gaz hose lance and add a little air pressure from a small compressor and there you have it your very own thurmic lance.
you only need a little air pressure to stop the flame backing up the pipe, the flame should burn just outside the lance as in a gas cutting torch.

Long build,
Hope you have noticed that the poker from BES is only for use with natural gas.

You can also get an electric device like a big hair dryer which blows extremely hot air into the fire to light it. (But I'm not sure if it uses natural electricity or the old town electricity :D)
