hi could anybody point me towards plans or a kit for a ww2 d day landing craft i know it sounds daft but ime looking for something like the landing boats in saving private ryon not a lot to go on but ya never know what other know lol

Mach 2 do an LCT6 of which the RN had two. Expensive but a superb kit. Hannants has photos of the kit contents.

Both Trumpeter and Italeri make an LCM(3) in 1/35 scale. The hull on the Trumpeter kit is a little deeper, so there may be a little more room for RC parts.
I converted the Trumpeter kit to RC a couple of years ago. Here's a link to a picture on our club website:

I used two standard servos for the power plant, connected to a Y cable, so I could use a cheap 2 channel radio. I build my plastic RC conversions as sealed models, so I used a 2.1 Ah NiMh battery, and just built it into the hull under the well deck. I figure that by the time it wears out, the model will be as worn out as well. The cargo well deck is sealed, so it doesn't matter if any water gets into it.
Note that the LCM(3) was not used to carry Sherman tanks-- it was found that the tanks were a little too heavy for the boat. The LCM ws designed to carry a 30 ton tank, which was about the weight of early Shermans, but by 1944 the tanks were pushing 40 tons. (The LCM(6) was an LCM3 with an additional 6 feet of length amidships, which increased the boat's displacement enough to let it carry Shermans.) The LCM3s used at Dday would have been carrying troops or lighter vehicles, such as a halftrack, truck, etc.
I used a Sherman in mine because I found a nice diecast motorized model, I was thinking about launching it via RC at some point....

Like all of my plastic model converions, I used standard servos for the plower plant. If you take a servo apart, you can connect the motor directly to the prop shaft, and use the electronics of the servo will act as a simple reversing speed control.
So, I have two standard servos connected to the prop shafts, and I connected the two servos with a Y cable into the throttle channel. I use a 2.1 AH 6 volt battery to power it all. I use a cheap 2 channel RC unit- one designed to be used with regular batteries.

Centering the potentiometer to match neutral on your transmitter is
key to getting fwd/rev out of this type of set up.
Once the potentiometer is set, people often cement that in place to prevent
it from shifting later.

Oooh--- I hope so. I have a 1/16 scale Tamiya RC Sherman just waiting for a ride.....
Scratchbuilding an LCM in 1/16 is on my "to do" list-- that's oen reason why I bought the 1/35 scale plastic kit. If Speedline did a kit, I might actually get the model built!!
Isn't Speedline Models planning to release a 1/16 scale kit?

Oops, sorry guys..
Please see the new link below to my LCM3 folder... the first few shots are of my LCM3 with my mates Tamiya Sherman on board (they didn't carry a Sherman during D Day, but they did carry them when used on the Rhine crossings, No waves?)
