Hi folks- coming up in a search for a shipmate: Does anybody knows links to find out some photographs about British Ton-Layers which use to do control on Sea signs?
Thankyou in advance,
Jörg

B.t.w.... are they to find under the Trinity house? Or am I wrong?
-
Hi Jörg assuming you want to know who looks after buoys, beacons, lightships, lighthouses etc yes it is Trinity House.
Sorry mate you lost something in the translation. :embarrassed:
-
Hi Dicky- doesn`t make me wonder.... Nuffink mentioned in my dictionary.
But you are right mate- that`s the ones I`m looking for...- sorry, shame on me... :embarrassed:

Hello Jorg, you will find some good information on Northern Lighthouse Board who, as Barry says, are the people who look after lights/buoys etc around Scotland at
www.nlb.org.uk. I have some pictures of the Pole Star and Pharos in my collection which I can send you if you PM me your e-mail address
Best Wishes

The RMAS used to look after all the Ministry of Defence Buoys and associated moorings etc.

As shipmate60 says the RMAS maintained all the MoD buoys which was nearly 3 times what Trinity house looks after at present.
-
... is there any difference between "Civil buoys" and the ones of the Ministry of defence? :o :o
Oh my......
RMAS means what? Sorry folks, but this seems to me all a bit chinese...- have had no idea that it was so complicated.... :P

The RMAS laid Moorings and Navigation Buoys around the coast and within the Naval Dockyards and such as the RAF bombing ranges.
For the present ships just Google RMAS Salmoor and RMAS Salmaid to give you just the 2 left.
In the 70's/80's we had about 20 Mooring Ships which were also equipped to salvage aircraft and submarines.

With reference to navigation buoys, the actual buoys were all identical Trinity house 10 foot diameter buoys, just the topmarks and the electrical lighting system varied between the different authorities, when gas was used they all used the same light system. If any one wants old drawings of buoys etc I still have my old notes still with official drawings amongst them.

Jorg,
Just for info Dave (rmasmaster) was the Master of Salmaid for a few years and I sailed as her Chief Engineer.
