Am I going nuts, or did I see a post from some Ruski by the name of 'Tina' advertising a sex video on here?
Even more weird, the post was in 'Featured Shows', even though there is no such group.
A possible hack, maybe? How did it get there in the first place?
-
PMK thanks, I deleted the post to which you refer, earlier.
Mayhem is under attack from a large number of foreign places. We have introduced more stringent membership approval but the sheer volume (15 to 20 per day) means that some slip through.
Martin is the only person who can approve or ban applications and he is kept busy with the process. We are still looking at better filtering.
Martin and the Moderators are greatly helped by existing Members who use the "Report to Moderator" button when they see anything dubious.

Blimey, so I wasnt't seeing things after all.
It never occurred to me to hit 'Report to Moderator' button.

That figures dude. ok2

Heheee!
But no, I wasn't after a cheap thrill. More a case of not being smart enough to think to snitch on the miscreant with that 'report' button.
Besides, I'd bet Tina probably has a moustache anyway.
-
No she didnt :-)) :o

Which is why you can appreciate Martin has sooooo much trouble distinguishing between hackers and genuine mayhemmers! ;)

Peter.

Does that mean Martin is not a genuine member?
No, but he probably has his own line of moustachioed videos for sale elsewhere
-
It depends on whether the moustache double-entendre has the same meaning for you guys down there as for us up here. %)

Just for general info, in the far east they are referred to as Trade Operators. One young lady joined a forum I moderate. And spent a lot of time going through the members list. Copying the sales pitch and emailing the members from the forum in house system!
Banned her and the ISP from the forum, I googled the user name and she used it in her off hours as well on some forums that her and her friends hung out on. Using the google translator She was talking about her new job. Were she was contacting people through forums she joined for business opportunities. In her country.
I guess your perspective, and putting rice in the bowl is everything, Whether it is spam or an opportunities.
There are more people that are doing that, joining forums and sending spam or just posting web sites. To keep their jobs in the US. We have had a couple of them doing that. I emailed the company, the owner contacted me and said yes he had them doing that to keep them busy till work came in. And he didn't see it any different than send out snail mail fliers. I have seen a real person join a forum and after they figure the forum admins go home on Friday. They turned a bot video file poster loose and by Monday morning there was close to 1,200 porno video clips on the forum. Some with auto start, all with a file number for easy ordering %%
Here is an interesting site on stopping forum spam. The amount of spammers they catch overnight is amazing. http://www.stopforumspam.com/ (http://www.stopforumspam.com/)
I was also informed that their is spammer web sites, that when one finds an easy forum they post it and it is flooded with spammers till the admin figures out something new to keep them at bay! :o

Thanks for that post PT, that precisely what we're fighting constantly here on Mayhem.
It takes up about an hour of my time every day..... >:-o

Between November and February and between the previous Admin and myself we had to delete over 9,000 spam accounts set up on Trawlerphotos. We finally managed to cut it right down by blocking various Email servers based in Russia and China ( both by Email and by IP addresses ). Up till the end of January / beginning of February it was taking a few hours a day to check and delete the accounts and now we are down to no more than at most a dozen spam accounts set up using hotmail or yahoo servers per day , can't block those but the spammers have to manually use those instead of their automated systems on the Russian and Chinese servers.
I sent Martin a list of the blocked Email servers we have so hopefully it will help him cut down the workload
