Title: Conficker Worm Virus

Supposedly theres going to be a virus set off tomorrow, it could be another 'flying penguins' moment, or it could be real. I'm not chancing it, so I won't be here tomorrow.

I would advise people run windows update now to get the latest updates.

Here is one test you can use to see if you might be infected with this worm. The worm blocks access to http://www.microsoft.com . If you can get to this web site, more than likely you do not have the Confickr worm. This test is only a test and in no way confirms that your PC is completely clean.

I have one word: 'Millenium'.. and not the robbie wiliams song. ;)

That was a racket if I ever saw one... a self perpetuating computer consultant employment generator. Who was warning us about the millenium bug and who were the only ones who could fix it?

No-body seems to have any idea what it is actually intended to do.  So far, all it has done is propagate itself.  April 1st is "one of those days" that is suspect, but no doubt there are many other dates significant to various cultures that dont like computer users when it could be set to do whatever it is going to do.
I had a look on majorgeeks and downloaded a copy of ssconftool_10_sfx, which is a free tool for spotting and getting rid of an infection.  Running it took about 1/2 hour and reported no infection.  Its always nice to know that whatever problems are out there, they aren't yours.
