Title: The one and only Les (Ginger) Sayer, MBE, DSM.
Post by: swordfish fairey on April 17, 2009, 11:53:10 am
I have just heard that Les Sayer has passed over the bar at 93. He died peacefully at home. For those of you who may not recognise the name, he was the TAG ( Telegraphist Air Gunner ) in the Swordfish that put THE torpedo into the Bismarck, for his part he was awarded the DSM. He was also onboard HMS Ark Royal with 825 Sqdn when she was sunk. He was the first president of the TAGS Association in 1947 I met him on numerous occasions and he was always great to be with, with a wicked sense of humour that often comes from being in the Navy. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, TAGS and the Association.     Les, it's been a real pleasure knowing you............Smudge...(Honary TAG)
