Title: poor springer
Post by: Willit on April 20, 2009, 03:26:29 pm
well my springer has just about had it.  Last time I ran it I brought it back to shore half full of water.  The wooden hull has been sand sealed twice, painted twice, sealed with bath sealer and it STILL leaks like a sieve.  All is not lost however, as I am going to fibreglass the hull to get it seaworthy again.

Are you sure the water is getting in through the hull?

Check the bearings in the prop tube.. and the rudder tube..
How high is the coaming under the superstructure?...

If you are going for major surgery anyway why not take out the electrics and fill her up with water.
Then you will be sure if it is the hull leaking.

Sealed with "bath sealer" Does he mean Cilicone? If so, it don't work too well.

wow its been a while since i visited the forum (life got in the way!)

the springer is still in my wardrobe waiting for me!  I don't really know what to do with it.  I'd quite like to start again with a GRP hull but I don't really want to give up on my own.  Does Norry still produce the GRP hulls?

Dont give up on it...

Did you figure out where the water was getting in?

I had the same problem Willit , mine turned out to be faulty prop shaft bearings on a brand new shaft.
Dunk it in the bath and see where the water is getting in, it maybe a very simple fix.  :-))
