Built and modified the SC&H Cruizer class brig kit to represent one of the early vessels built for the US navy, the USS Syren. Have sailed her over the past two seasons now and have all the kinks worked out - she now sails beautifully and with the current rigging can point very high into the wind. She has 9 firing carronades (black powder substitute called Triple 7), almost all rigging is sropewalk twisted line. Overall L=7ft, hull=5ft, height>6ft. 80+lbs with keel attached. Independently controlled main yards, fore yards, crossver jibs, and driver.

Dan,
Welcome to Mayhem :}
Wonderful pics, as always - thanks for sharing them
I should have a word with your bosun about the matelot on the ratlines - he has been climbing for about 210 years.
He is wearing well, but needs to increase productivity.

Hello again, Andrew.
His name is Sisyphus Ropeforrock.
His situation does change...some of the time he's climbing on the leeward, some time on the windward.
-
Breathtakingly beuatiful. A credit to you.

Dan
Well, with a name like that he was bound to labour fruitlessly for eternity :}

This really is an awe-inspiring model! It's hard to tell that many of these photos are of a model rather than a real ship; the overscale water is the only thing that gives it away! The painting, detailing and rigging are first rate. It also looks like you've done a very good job of concealing the operating rigging lines!
What scale is the model? Around 1/32-1/24?

Well, with a name like that he was bound to labour fruitlessly for eternity :}
Apart from the climbing ropes part, I rather feel like I'm labouring fruitlessly for eternity myself!

Thank you for the compliments. She did turn out to be a photogenic model.
The scale is 1/24. The operational rigging is prototypical - braces to the yard arms. The ruddder is also (almost) prototypically operated, with tackle on the tiller.
Quite a bit of trial and error to get the system smoothly operational.

Live 9 gun rolling broadsisde from the Syren. Triple Seven black powder substitute, no projectile.

It has been a long, long time since the last post here, by Jimmy James. Sad that he is gone. I still miss his humor and helpful feedback.
Here is a video of a recent sailing outing with the brig Syren.
