Title: L class submarines
Post by: dreadnought72 on April 28, 2009, 10:50:49 am
Hi there!

Following a family connection, would anyone have any information about the inter-war L-class RN submarines - and specifically L19? Pointers to books, plans and - well - anything would be most welcome.  :-))

Regards,

Andy

www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/l_class    has a list of that class with history and photographs (which can be purchsed), including a couple of L-19.

Why not just type HM submarine L19 into Google search, you will be most probaly pleasantly surprised with the info that can be had for free with most probaly free photo's to download. Thats how I get most of my info.

Thanks for the info/suggestions.

There's not a lot in the internet about this class.

andy,
I see from the links that david gave
L15 was built at Fairfields,
L9 & 10 were built at Denny's,
others were built at Beardmore's
I would be checking Glasgow uni Archives and The mitchell Libruary for the drawings and any other
info they have on them (if GLasgow uni watch what you are getting off them and to what scale :-)) )

Many thanks - I should be able to sneak into Glasgow Uni. - I work at "one of the others" - and the Mitchell's a doddle. ;-)

If you do not mind paying alot of money, I expect the Maritime Muesem will have all the old Admiralty drawings on this class as they have the rest of the Admirality drawings, they were all given to them for safe keeping many years ago when the MoD reduced its libarary to save costs.

Just been onto "cyber-heritage/plymouth", then scrolled to bottom of page to "navy photos", clicked on there and in the sub conventional section most of the L's are there including L19, you can download the pics for nothing. Also there is a good book out that only deals in uk subs and deals with each class, my mate bought it last year, try searching amazon for it, just type in British submarines in their search engine.
