Title: Glue...
Post by: MartinH-K on May 14, 2009, 07:03:57 PM
I have been using epoxy contact adhesive to plank my ship. All was going fine until I ran out of teak and had to switch to pine which I was going to stain. There are a few sections of the pine that seem to have expanded in the rain and lifted. Is there a better glue/adhesive that I can use?

It's not the glue that's the problem it's the timber.

Untreated teak is more or less waterproof whereas untreated pine isn't and will swell as it absorbs water.

You need to treat the pine as soon as you can after laying it.

That makes sense. :-)) Am I right in assuming that the part of the pine that's glued can be considered 'treated' and I simply need to do all the rest?

Right, you should varnish it as soon as your glue has hardened.
