Title: Modelboats competition
Post by: Colin Bishop on May 25, 2009, 05:53:34 pm
As many of you will be aware, I am currently acting as Editor of the Model Boats magazine website. Martin has kindly given permission for me to draw attention to items on that site which may be of interest to Mayhem members so I will be providing occasional updates on this Topic.

As those of you who have visited it will already know, the Model Boats site is not just a Forum but exists to generally support the magazine and to encourage people to take out subscriptions. It also has links to advertisers and to the MyHobbyStore online shop which has recently greatly expanded the range of items on sale.

You will find a lot of useful information already on the site and we will be adding to this over then next few months. Of particular interest is the searchable Article Database which contains a selection of articles previously published in the magazine and which offers a treasure trove of practical model boating data. Obviously we don't publish all the articles on the website otherwise people would wait for them instead of buying the magazine but there is nevertheless a lot of very useful information on tap which we hope will encourage new readers who will get everything hot off the presses! As regular readers will know, Editor Paul Freshney has increased the variety of articles appearing in individual issues so that most months there should be several items of interest to everyone.

I have today launched a Model Boats Website Photographic Competition with plans and a hull  as prizes which I think a lot of you might like to have a go at so come on over and check it out for yourself at http://www.modelboats.co.uk/

I see  there is a nice little competition in the Modelboats site. If nobody has mentioned it yet.

Me thinks our leader has put some pics on it.

I have today launched a Model Boats Website Photographic Competition..........

Why alienate non scale modellers???
"Rule 3. Each photo will be assessed by the extent to which it appears to depict a real vessel rather than a model. Close up views of part of the model will be eligible as well as photos of the whole model. Models photographed may be either working or static. Dioramas must have a predominantly nautical theme."
Why not just the best picture of a model doing it's thing whether it be scale, fast electric, nitro, petrol or whatever......

Because this competition is about what it says it is. Further competitions can specialise in other branches of the hobby - we don't want to shoot off all the ammunition at once in one go! As anyone who has done any judging will be aware, it is very difficult to judge fairly between completely different types of model if they are all lumped into one class as you are not comparing like with like.

Also, most of the regular posters on the MB Forum tend to be scale orientated at the moment.
