Title: 1/35 trumpeter type 7
Post by: uboatbuilder on November 02, 2006, 01:22:21 pm
Trumpeter 1/35 type 7
just wondered if anyone else had heard of this awesome, monster of a kit coming probably early next year. Should be one hell of a kit to convert and the best thing is that its rumoured to cost only £99.99

It should be big enough for dive units by sheerline and the like with the normal high standard of detail from a static kit.

Cant wait to see it

In comparison the sheerline one is about 1/40 scale and i thought that was big!!

and a 1/32 resin kit by "Andrea miniatures" (i think they're called) costs around £1300.

doubt ill be getting one though as its bigger than most rooms in my house  :D :D :D :D

Grant  :)

PS. I must stress that it hasnt been 100% confirmed

I agree, this sub has all the classic lines and a really menacing 'feel'... its the epitome of the 'terror beneath the waves!'  ;D

Its just a pity it was out performed in every way by the Type 21 sub, which is the for runner of todays subs....

Dead right mate, line up twenty nuke subs, stand back fifty yards and they all look the same, just like modern cars seen one seen them all...

I'm glad to say that the new Royal Navy subs aint like that. The Vanguard Class SSBN's are ver distincive as is the new Astute class SSN's. It's mainly the US submarines that look like a drain pipe with attitude lol

P.S. any way of putting up a link with what info you've found out on this 1/35th VIIc as i'd definately be interested in it !!

Every other sub across the world was out performed by the Type 21.  The Type VII when it came out was the best and hence just another stage in the developement process.

Personally I don't think you can beat the look of a Type VIIC.  The IX's were getting fat and the variants prior to the VII were too basic but the VII's before they started mucking about with the Wintergarten just seemed to have the right look about them.  Maybe "Das Boot" left a lasting impression on me!!

Pointy, dont know if you are aware but Engle do a large type 1X, a bit basic in the detail of the deck and tower etc, but good gear. ;D ;D

:) :)The type XX1 boats were the same hull design as the Walter Hydrogen peroxide experimental boats but they were abandoned due to the dangerous nature of the propulsion, they had incredible underwater speed but were dead dodgy to be in, the XX1 design kept the hull shape as it was a good true underwater design ( the Walters didn't need air to run the engines as it was a chemical reaction thus a true submarine) The XX1 were capable of 17 knots whilst submerged, They were known as an Elecktro boot, as electricity was there main form of propulsion, the diesels only ran to charge the batteries, not propel the boat, they even had " creep " motors to run at very slow silent speeds at 5 Knots to evade detection IF ever found submerged..Thank goodness they never made it to full operational status. ;D ;D

Sub Driver,

One did make it to fully operational status, but the war ended before it was able to sink anything, although the Captain did do an attack run and was capable of sinking several ships but pulled out and disappeared without detection....

CBR900, Yeah was aware of that one, meant in numbers being operational, :) fantastic leap in technology and design and you were quite right in your earlier post of them being the forerunner of the modern boats. I am 3/4 way through doing a XX1 to go with my other couple of boats (..Err.....well 9 actually !) ;D ;D
Got the Gato to convert too forgot about that one Ho Hum a sub modellers duty is never done.
May all your surfaces be the right way up !!

The RN took over one of the Walter boats at the end of the war and renamed it HMS Meteorite. Apparently inspired by this they had VA Barrow build the two Explorer class - HMSs Explorer and Excalibur. Because of the hydrogen peroxide fuel they were known as the Blonde class.

The fuel was highly volatile and the system less than totally reliable - crews called them Exploder and Excruciator.

Hannants confirm the kit is out in autumn this year probably in time for the I.P.M.S. show in october price is around the £100 pound mark and judging by their 1/35 tanks it will be good quality. Also onthe way from the same people a 1/35 E boat late war configuration -keep watching the skies.
