There are 4 car carrying ships moored up in Southampton and this little lot anchored off Shanklin and Sandown on the Isle of Wight.

There are ship laid up all over the UK, check this site out http://www.shipais.com/index.php (http://www.shipais.com/index.php)

Right but seeing them on a map is not the same as seeing them anchored across the horizon and moored two abreast in the docks.

I didn't say it was!
But for those who don't live anywhere near the sea or anywhere near Southampton and want to see the the effect of the recession on shipping they can look at the site I previously mentioned.
Sorry for trying to be helpful.

I was just making a point, not trying to be rude, been a hard day has it ? ok2

It's only the car carries that are laid up at anchor, 4 from the same company, The other ships are just waiting for a berth

According to the current edition of "Ships Monthly" there are 506 Container Ships idle world wide which is equivalent to about 1.34 million TEUs of capacity.
(TEU - Twenty foot Equivalent Unit = A 20' long container of approximately 14tonnes deadweight)
