This was initially built for a model plane requiring two servos for the ailerons. A simple Y-lead would not have worked because one of the servos had to operate in the opposite direction to the other. It's also been used as a quick-and-dirty mixer for boats with twin motors.

Hang on, I see that throwing the steering left and right will cause the ESCs to receive forward and reverse information, but how do you get them both going forward at the same time without a connection into the "throttle" channel? This seems to be steering without motion, unless I am missing something.

another question
why would you want a mixer for aileron connection.
just connect to the other side of the servo arm or use an opposite sided servo.
bit overkill doing it this way when you just need to move the connector over the servo arm.

( Many modern RC planes have 2 servos in the wings for various reasons, ease of installation, split wings, increased set-up options, power, certain amount of redundancy, flaps etc. Some of the big / high power / competition planes have 3 or 4 per Side and 3 on the rudder! )

Sorry, Malcolm - my mistake. Even though I checked the page for errors (twice!), I'd inadvertently uploaded the wrong GIF. The one you saw was a sneak preview of a cross between Bluebird's PIC switcher and a non-PIC not-quite-working-yet rudder/throttle mixer.
