Title: Paint creep
Post by: dougal99 on August 25, 2009, 07:17:26 pm
Experimenting with Tamiya acrylics I over thinned the paint (silly boy)  <:( the result is that it has crept under the masking tape in several places (red on white) has any body got tips on how to remove this without damaging the other paint.

Hi Doug . hard one to fix best scrape it then add a little paint.
A tip I was told is let's say you have a white hull and want to add red line.
1 paint hull white
2 mask up
3 paint the masked area white this seals the tape and stop bleed.
4now paint the masked area red.
This way because you seal the tape you should get no bleed.

yes, that always works well, though you do get a bit of build up. Also be sure to use Tamiya tape, it's the biz

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I was using tamiya tape but I hadn't sprayed white over the tape (I keep forgetting and am usually in too much of a hurry - must remember - more haste less speed).

However, I managed to remove the unwanted paint with a combination of scalpel blade and silver polish. The latter, along with brass polish, is quite abrasive to paint and fortunately the unwanted paint was over thinned so not too much rubbing was needed to remove it.

Happy (ish) again.

Top tip!!! While the paint is still wet, use a cotton bud dipped in Tamiya acrylic thinners and wipe the offending overspray away  :-))
