OK i have today just purchased a part built hull done to a very high std and was just wondering what motor you guys would recommend,I was thinking of the MFA 850 with a 60mm 2 blade prop,I am looking for around 1 hr running time but could be persuaded to have less but to go like stink. And no suggestions of nitro etc banned up here
-
Hi Stavros,
Exactly the set up I use :D
I lessen weight by using NiMh's, usually 9.6v, but am about to test with the full 12v. Am also experimenting with 14.4v.
Run time (not continually flat out) on 9.6v are around the hour mark.
Have fun...Great winter boats which will handle all conditions we want to be out in :D :D

I presume Bradboat you mean a pack similar to teh racing packs?
-
The very same.
The innards of mine mean that using a trditional 12v SLA turn her into a snowplough >:(
Planes very happily on anything from a 8.4v packupwards.

Hi,
I am struggling to model the "pulpit" on my Huntsman..any hints greatly received
Thanks in anticipation....
-
Havn't started that yet, placed boat on the shelf to ponder, the jury is out on htis one as yet!!!One suggestion is to go out and buy a set of tube benders, available form most good model shops, these stop any kinking of the tube that is being built. If you kno wanyone in the garage trade try and scrounge some Gas welding rod to practise on!!!
-
Benders worked for me, but as for attaching the stansions, that was and is a different matter :( :(
Why is it that if ever a boat catches something in transit it's always the weakest part?
Anyway, have attached a photo (first attempt at this ???) and welcome comments

Stavros,
I am putting in a Johnson motor in mine not sure of the size as I am not at home but will check.....
Roy
-
Stavros,
It is a Johnson 795 motor running from a 12volt 4amp hour sla battery, it goes in the water on this Saturday will take some pics and let you know how it went...
Roy
-
Look forward to seeing the pics
Brad
-
Johnson 795 isn't that an equivalent to the MFA 800??
-
Stavros,
It would be very close, I ran it today Saturday and was a little disappointed with it, but it will get better, I think the prop was to big and I am going to try a 50ml two blade next trip out.
As for the pulpit I used the kit wire and just bent it where I wanted it to go with no kinks, and for stanchions I drilled trough the deck on the opposite angle to which the stanchion would go to and glued them in, then soldered the other end onto the rail worked quite well and is solid...
These are a few pics of the boats and the Huntsman the three of us had out today.....
-
The bottom pic if you look closley I have even put padded seats in...
I do have a 3 meg mpg of the thing running but I don't know whether I can add it to this site...
And in case your wondering I am the one that is bending over, so you have missed my mug shot again....
The battery used was 12 volt 4 amp and it was a little short, will try a 12 volt 7amp one next time and will also take some 7.2 and 8.4 packs as well....

Nice job Roy. Didn't take long did it? ;)
Richard :)
-
Both nice jobs Roy and Brad - something really cool about the lines if these boats eh?
Where is that splendid looking lake, by the way Brad? It just reminded me of the lake on the Kidlington edge of Oxford (can't quite remember the name of the 'suburb'!) where you could (once upon a time) buy a house with a garden that ended up by the lake....! :)
Cheers, Brian

Brian,
The best part of their looks mate is when they are travelling, that is when they really look spectacular......
Roy
-
Brad, thanks for that, too far for me, but really nice lake all the same.... cheers!
Roy, Yep, I reckon you would be correct on that..... so hows about some action pics then (not just of you bending over either!) ;D

What were you talking about Roy, the Cardiff Marine Modellers Society or the Fairey Huntsman ???
Richard 8)

Trust me, the members of this particular club are incapable of looking spectacular regardless of motion ;D ;D ;D
-
Brian,
I do have a 3meg video clip but do not know how to show it on here..
