Folks can anyone identify the two items on each end of the mast spar, the white objects with round base and looks like a spike at the top?
Also do Sirmar do a 1/48 scale fitting for these items, I need one as it has been lost a wee while ago.
Thanks
David

They should be in the E.S.M set here
http://www.sirmarmodelships.com/fittings.asp Look under 1:48 Ariels priced £3.56
This is a picture of the E.S.M sets found under 1:96 fittings.

You asked for identification of the items.
They are uhf wide band omni-directional aerials (discones) primary use is for air/ground comms on military airband frequencies.
The top cone is to stop the S**te hawks from perching on them!

Thanks gents, I have managed to cobble together a similar looking piece from milliput and metal rod :embarrassed:

I have a similar query regarding the mast on the US Coast Guard's Island-class cutter, which carries a serious amount of "gadgetry" for such a small ship:
Radars are obvious enough (there are 2 - is one surface scanning and the other air?) as are running lights (the small black cylinders with flared bases) and speakers/sirens, and the double-circle thing on the arm looks like a direction-finder loop. Also not clearly visible in this photo (on the aft side) is the ship's bell and a large spotlight to illuminate the rear deck. But everything else is a mystery to me! I would guess a lot of them are communications-related, including GPS, satellite links etc. Many are under domes (white, grey, and one blue), and this photo shows another large dome on the superstructure roof forward of the windshield - not all of the cutters have this, and I didn't add one to my model.
Doubt there are any USCG experts on this forum, but can anyone familiar with modern ship equipment help me to identify any of the components here?

According to the book Combat Fleets Of The World these ships have - Raytheon SPS64(V)1 or Hughes-Furuno SPS-73 navigation radars.
The lettering on the lower radar looks like it could be Furuno, which would make it the SPS-73. The upper radar looks like a surface search one, its not big enough for air search. This is mounted as high as possible to increase the horizon distance. It would be used to search for ships and boats and track them.
The device with the 2 loops at right angles is a radio direction finder.
I don't know what the other stuff is.
