Title: Junior members in the club
Post by: dgp1957 on September 03, 2009, 01:44:45 pm
Folks
At the moment my local club is finding itself in a situation which it has not been in for years (if ever) there are a growing number of youngsters wanting to join the club (under 14) and I'm not sure about allowing them to join as junior members. Are there any forum members whose clubs have a junior section in them and who could maybe point me in the right direction for setting up a junior membership for our club?

I can't offer any advice, but I do know that you have to consider the Child Protection Legislation. I think the MPBA have some advice on this.

Must admit the only Junior members we have are members because of the Parents , However You don't want to dissuade them from joining but I would imagine it opens up a whole minefield of fun with CRB checks as All current members with direct access to children and young people would be required to complete a CRB Enhanced Disclosure .

But I'm sure the full answer will be posted .

This might be of some use to start with.

I would suggest that you make it a condition that juniors may only attend the lake if they have a parent or gardian in attendance with them. This may seem harsh, but better safe than sorry.

I agree with Alan, we at our club have the same "problem" & we run the same system ie parent or
guardian at all times. It is a sad reflection of the times we live in but having been involved, though
indirectly, in a nasty case, it is better to be safe than sorry,

Our club also requires that all children are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

You really cant be too careful these days, there are some out there who would lie their teeth out if they think they could make money out of it.
