Title: Enamel paint????
Post by: laserblue16 on November 13, 2006, 01:14:16 pm
Hi, I have managed to get quite a few tins of Humbrol enamel paint, very cheaply, and was wondering if this would be suitable for topside painting. The hull will be done in acrylics and laquered. Any comments would be welcome.

Cant see a real problem with using enamels the only downside as far as I would PERSONALLY be concerned with is the drying time, far too long for my liking, dust can stick to the paint in record time,at least with acrylics they dry quick and there is less of a chance of dust contamination.one drawback with enamel is that if you need to repaint at anytime you CAN NOT reacoat with acrylics etc

Hi laserblue 16,

I manly only use Humbrol as I find it will always give a good finish with eather hand brush painted or  if you use a Air brush, I do both and have not had any problems with finish, Stavros is also right that this time of the year it will take longer to dry, but in a warm place it will dry quickly.
You can over paint acrylics with enamels but not the other way round.
