Title: wiring help needed

Hi,
This is my first RC boat build. I have been cleaning up and repainting a racing hull kindly donated by Mark (craftysod).
All my electrics/electronics arrived today, and now I need a little help in connecting them all together!

I have a Viper Marine 15 ESC, and radiolink Rx (the 2.4GHz one from Giantcod).
I assume the ESC will power the Rx? Is that correct or do I need a separate battery?
The main battery I will be using is a 12V 7AH.
The ESC connector has 3 coloured wires, orange, red and brown to connect to the Rx.
I assume this connector plugs into position 7/B on the Rx, but which way round?

Also, the Rx has a very short piece of wire for the antenna (about 80mm). Is this sufficient, or do I need to connect this up to a separate antenna?

Hi your ESC will power the Rx though you can use a seperate power supply if you disconnect the red cable.

The ESC connector should have the orange cable nearer the centre of the Rx and the brown cable on the outside.

The antenna if supplied that length should be fine, try a range test to check.

Thanks DickyD, that seems to have it working fine.
Now to install into the hull.

As a rule of thumb, the black (sometimes brown) servo wire should go to the pin nearest the outside edge of the radio.  Designers generally try to put the ground line at the outside edge of the board.  Not always, but usually.
A short antenna on a fast boat will be better held upright in a plastic tube. The higher, the better the range.  Again, usually.
