A commercial one is just cut the hole and glue it in... making one is a little more complicated.
You either have to make a right angled gearbox or a flexible shaft from an off-set motor..

.. or do you mean operating one?..  {:-{

come to Blane moor on the 18th of this month and you can See some of th best bow thrusters working and you could even have a go with a tug fitted with one. granted it is a home made type but there cheap to build if you can do it and they work very very well and if done right will last for years even with the abuse i give them.

I can vouch for MiniSteve's bow thrusters. They are the same motor/coupling/shaft/prop as the main drive system on most Springers! Three even survived the abuse that I gave them!!!!!!!

Chris

PS Ministeve - I am still hoping for that scooter motor link.

Anyone put one in a Smit Nederland? That might be one of this winter's projects. I have a spare ESC and a spare channel on the R/C (LH stick - X axis) that's just crying out to be put to use!

Len.

Have a look at Ministeve photos/ narrative here.  The details are in the thread although the ones that I have seen had rather more P41 around the shaft/tube joint for reinforcement I think. The plumbing pipe was also VERY well roughened to key it all.

Hi Guys    Yes the tube looks to be long, but when in the position you require it then you can cut the tube to fit the hull.
