Hi guys does anyone have any idea what these three fittings are.On closer examination they appear to have covers that are hinged so that the vents can be covered but im not sure and dont understand why they would cover them.I have been trying to figure this out for weeks and this is the best picture i have.Austal are as much use as a choclate fire guard and wont help at all. :-))

When you see vents with covers like these the most likely explanation is that they are closed in the event of fire to prevent air getting to the conflagration. Alternatively they may just be closed in bad weather.

Looks to me like the black frame is a sealing gasket and the red rectangles might be notices saying close in event of fire.

....if memory serves, if vents have hatches that close like these ones, they may be shut during NBCD ( Nuclear Biological and Chenmical Defense) scenarios.
The ship would close down to citadel defense and use interior air purefiers. Least thats what we use to do wearing the chemox gear sitting up in the deck apes mess deck at the pointy end where the fences meet.

You are all correct .... on Navel vessels all compartments are pressure tested for these reasons ... on merchant ships only hull and main weather deck vents and hatches are tested.... many a ship has been kept afloat by sealing damaged compartments and floating the vessel on an air bubble after a collision ---grounding or battle damage

Yes definitely for NBCD Scenarios
Grey Funnel also had prewetting
Large garden sprinklers which sprayed
the upper decks with water when transiting
nuclear fallout zones
