My guess is for driving around York city centre when it's flooded.
If not that then I think perhaps a passenger ferry for a causeway served attraction, looking at the size I would say quite a large attraction, and looking at the style it is very reminiscent of the ferries on the Dart- close?

Tommy O’Connnell from Kerry, wanted the vessel to cover some specific, and unusual, applications. ‘He owns half an uninhabited island with no quays or piers to tie up to, and beyond taking tourists around, he also has some livestock he needs to retrieve from time to time. With a boat like this, he can he can go straight up the foreshore and into the fields.’

I saw it in the hard copy version of the trade journal but that's it and Dicky D is quoting from the same source. I guess it invites comments comparing tourists with cattle. Anybody want to model it?

They build amphibians near Cancale in Brittany to harvest the oyster and mussel beds just offshore. Look more like lorries with a flat bed.

You need an amphibian in Cancale - the car parking charges are more than extorionate!
And I don't like the oysters anyway - snot in a shell!

A plat des fruits de mer in Cancale is one of life's gastronomic experiences. Copious draughts of gewurztraminer, an idiosyncratic choice I grant, gild the lily.

Before the Walrus and the Carpenter come to blows, what was unusual about the amphibian which started this thread was that it was a tricycle - just like an early Moggie - but not quite as good looking. How common is that ?

You,re mistaken there Colin,...think whelks,..now they do look like a bogie in a shell,,,,or as they are called up here,"snotters wi,their helmets on {-)but they do taste luverly,my wife likes them between two slices of buttered bread,yuk,me i prefer to howk them out with a pin,

"Winckles" down here...but still bogies. Must remember to take the little black cap off before you winkle it out though.
