Title: a new tug , portgarth
Post by: portside II on November 08, 2009, 03:41:23 pm
I have been thinking for a while now about a new tug , looking at what is available and what i have at home i have to make a compromise with the size of the hull . I have brakengarth 42" and nangee 24" plus a few more , the problem is thet the big tug is good on the water but big to transport and the smaller tug is easy to transport but has less mass on the water.
So i have seen the mmm portgarth hull which is 37 1/2" long and has a beam of 12 1/4" which is not too big to shift in the car , but has enough mass on the water to hold its own .The next thing is thrust/power/torque (tpt) and what to use , the recomended is either 60 or 70mm kort/ prop set up but being different and wanting plenty of tpt i thought about a pair of 90mm kort/props and a thruster from the design stables of ministeve (50mm 2 blade prop in a polly tube .
The other thing is the voltage , the hull will take a bit of balast to get down to the desired water level and i am a big favorite of using batterys (dual purpose) , there is enough room for two main and one aux bat's so do i run 24v or 12v , this also depends on the motors as the recomended at bryans T12's but i have some ,just as powerfull but bigger in size that will run either 12 or 24v .
This is where you come in , do you have any experience or oppinions on whether this set up would work and what modifications i would need to do .
