What is the green fence for, seen on the verge of the M6 just north of Wigan It's about 18 inches high, and is for about half a mile between two bridges. Also on the other side of the motoway. It looks like its made of rigid plastic. I've seen similar barriers near new projcts to confine and capture newts, but they were polythene.
The area has not been coned off 'till recently, looks like they are removing the stuff now.
Also in the picture is a pretty big boat on a low loader.
-
Ground above looks a bit 'Rocky'. Perhaps it to stop rolling debris ?

Dont know about the fence but I do know that's not a low loader. ok2
-
There is major works going to start by making the a forth lane so it could be the earth has to be excavated out.
-
it's to stop small animals from entering the work site. The contractor has a responsibility to the environment under the contract to do the work. Part of that is not to harm wild life so if they stop it entering the work site it don't get harmed . Out side the work site is not there reasonably.

Correct. We had them her in Peterborough to protect the greater crested newts or summut......

...on the other hand , it could be snow fencing. They stretch it along roadsides which run perpendicular to the prevailing winds, so the snow drifts by the fence and not on the road. Perhaps after last winter, an ounce of prevention, you've been warned, remember last year. Of course, we were in the Canaries and missed all the fun. {-)

That's not a "....big boat...". You should see some of the things that go down the road near my home.
About 10 miles north of here they make large, ocean going yachts and floating gin palaces and haul them down the D 137 to La Rochelle. Most of them are wrapped in a continuous skin of transparent plastic. I would love to see the process for that. The "load" has to have an escort both in front and behind. In France this is done by a commercial organisation. The police only turn out for something huge or something dangerous. But even with these boats they have to stop the traffic through a village near here as the boats occupy the whole road.
I did see one yacht that was wider than the road but when it came to the narrowest spot the back of the lorry jacked up and tilted and the lorry bed and yacht proceeded very slowly at a 45 deg, angle!

I thought they'd stopped putting methanol in wine, Roger! I should try another brand {-) {-)

Only a good, large malt so far this evening, Danny after walking the dog in the cold and wet.
Just about to open a good bottle of red "Madiran" to drink with the duck in half an hour. After all, I am an hour ahead of you !

There goes my memory I could have sworn that Roger had previously said he was vegetarian - a persuasion that his French farmer neighbour did not understand.
Hey ho, I must be dreaming - I hope I don't wake up in the shower <:(
-
No Dougal - he means that he AND THE DUCK will be drinking the wine in half an hour O0
Not only a veggie, but kind to animals as well %)
You've heard of French "relationships".... :o :o
(or maybe "duck" is his pet name for the wife??)
Cheers

Don't they call everyone "duck" in the Midlands?
Like "love" up here in the North (God's Country)
-
Yes, some do call everyone "Mi Duck" in the Midlands (You might be "Gods Country" but we're "Gods Truth" - at least thats what it sounds like they say when they first see it from the M6) :o
Danny
see back on thread ;)
-
Its definitely a boat ok2
Its Martin's latest eBay purchase :}
-
It was going north so it's more Likely for Norry %)
-
Vegetarian, me?
Can't imagine where that came from!
I lived and worked in Nottingham for 4 years and became used to being addressed as "Me duck" but the one that took far longer to be understood was, "Anny eny on yuh?"

My apologies for mixing you up with someone else of the forum (I think).
I was sure you had added a post, some considerable time ago, saying that your French neighbour thought that being vegetarian meant you wouldn't eat meat that you had killed yourself, so he brought you some of the spoils from his hunting efforts.
Obviously I was mistaken
Going for a very long lie down. :embarrassed:
