the Wife took a liking to this one when we seen her mored up along side the Steam museum in Maasluiss (Holland) between Hook van Holland and Rotterdam.
heres a photo of the original
-
the making of the rudder;
little brass nails have been shorted to fit, and the plastic strips are from slaters.
the prop and tillerarm have been changed from what came with the kit, to a tillerarm from Robbe and a prop from Raboesch.
-
instead of using the wood that came with the kit (I'm not a good friend of Wood, and neither is water) ;-)
so i have used plastic for the Deck support beams and made my own "H" beams
the propshaft is also from Raboesch, the motor is from Buehler

here's a photo of most of the Skylights, and the Engine room cover.

Building the Bridge was rather complex, and one could spend hours up on hours doing mods and alterations, or even insted of using the supplied plastic, using Wood as in the Real Furie.
i opted for the plastic, and try and make it look like wood.. !! O0
-
just to follow on here the bridge
-
both masts were build in much the same way, instead of using the supplied wood, i decided to go for Brass, so as to hide the wires for the working lights (LED's), the front mast also doubles up as the Aerial for the Radio gear.
the dingy i thought would be nice if all the ribs were put in the vacform, so it looks a little bit more like a dingy instead of a vacform !!

time for the painwork;
no i have not used a spray gun
all the painting was done by Hand, yes, a paint brush, well different sizes of course, and the little tins of paint from Humbrol which were thinned slightly, once all was dry, i applied a few coats of clear satin varnish to protect the paint work.
-
and once all was finished it was time for the maiden voyage.
since Building this model, i have entered a few steering competitions on the continent (Germany, my home from home), and low and behold have managed to come in under the top 4 a few times.
hope you all enjoy the photo's, i enjoyed builder Her.

A LOVELY MODEL BUT A SHAME ON YOU PUTTING A 5 BLADED PROPELLOR ON A STEAM TUG, THE CHIEF ENGINEER WOULD BE PULLING HIS HAIR OUT WITH ENGINE ALWAYS STOPPING AT TDC {-) {-) {-) {-)
-
jup i know :embarrassed:, it was the only Prop i had at the time with the right diameter, since the model has been finished and been on the water a few times, i now have a 3 Bladed Brass Prop on the model. :-))
with the 5 Bladed prop it went like Sh** of a shovel.. {-)
