Hello gents.
After finishing my US Army tugs i have decided to try my hand on another one, this time a romanian tug, the Zimbrul class (Zimbrul in romanian means Bison). I am having almost the full set of shipyard drawings for this tug and i was on the real ship this summer in Constanta port, at the Black Sea. It is a very powerfull and maneouvrable ship with twin props in Kort and twin ALCO diesels of 3300HP each.(props are having a diameter of 3.8m! with variable pitch).
The tug will be completly scratch, from plywood, styrene and brass.
I will post some pictures from the beginning until where i am now.

The model...scale 1:45
Lenght 820mm
Beam 230mm
For powering the model i am using two Pro 480 motors with belt drive 1:8 gear ratio as the props will have 78mm in diam.

For the Kort duse i have done a brass mold at the lathe and then cover it with fiberglass for obtaining two identical korts.

I just knew that there would be a use for a Fray-Bentos "Babys' Head" tin! (Steak'n'Kidney pud to the landlubbers).

Thank you all for kind remarks! and for watching this thread. It's going to be a long build, as the real tug have very much details and i just want to put these details on the model also.
shıp110 - The scale for the model is 1:45 with overall lenght of 820mm. real ship is 36.80m lenght including the rubber guard around it.
Some technical specs - Power 2X3300 HP
- 2X3.80m diameter props with variable pitch
- bollard pull 107Tons
- maxiumum speed without tow aprox 13.9 nd
daz - For the Kort Nozzles i have used a brass mold made at the lathe respecting the inside wing shape of the original Kort nozzle of the tug. On this mold i have applied fiberglass. First inside, after completly dried i have take it of the brass mold, then outside in the same procedure. I had then two halfs of a nozzle wich i have glued togheter using epoxy. Then primed and sanded. The rudders are made from styrene.

Sorry George. Just a bit of fun really. your 1st pic showed a shape that is almost identical to that made for a type of meat pudding and sold in the UK. When cooked and put upside down on a plate matelots over the years have likened the result to the head of a baby. Sick, perhaps, but political correctness has never been popular among seamen!. BY.

I have done these days some work in styrene to made the bollards, anchor winch and something that on the shipyard drwings is called SOMAR (used to guide the towing cable when the distance between tug and tow is more than 200Metres).

Hello!
i Have done some brass work these days, have made the forward mast, towing capstan and two of the towing arches. Also i have completed the details inside the cabin, i will take some night pictures after finishing the electrical connections because the control panels are lighted.

Calin- i can control the pitch only when the props are stoped, and not with them turning.

I'll try to do my best with this tug as it is going to be on display at Intermodellbau Dortmund in April...
About the pitch control, i will try to make a sketch to show more accurate the way i have made it.

Hello gents and thank you for watching this.
I have made a little progress on the tug, especially worked at the raillings, but also applied the waterline hull markings and the antiskid plates on the stairs.
