Hi
I have one of the above, not working but I left it in the wall when renovating our house when we got it. Above the range is the Mantlepiece which is Steel , Over the years it has developed a thin layer of surface rust which I have just wired brushed off , I am wanting to keep the look , But am wanting to stop the rust forming again.
Question.
Is there an oil or such product which I can wipe over it without leaving a oily / greasy residual..
Any advice welcome..

Black lead Polish is what you need.
Just Google it, loads there.

One of the brand names I seem to remember was "Zebo Grate Polish". Brushed on like shoe polish except no smell. I`m sure that with the popularity of wood burning stoves, lot of them are cast iron, that one of these suppliers would stock such a product. `fraid we are still burning haggis pats and the occasional wickerworks, up here to know about such moderen contraptions, but the Hydro-electric is just fine. :-))

You're right though its unavailable now and has been replaced with Stovax Black Grate Polish

When we moved into this farm cottage, where we are now, there was an old wood-burning stove, that needed a little TLC,over all it was i good working order, it ust needed that final touch to make it look more presentable, after cleaning the outside with fine steel wool, i sprayed the entire stove with VHT matt black spray paint, this paint is normally used on exhaust manifolds, and can withstand temps of 1300c,+i sprayed the stove whilst the metal was hot to the touch,..after drying i used a tube of Zebrite black grate polish, and the stove came up a treat,
