Does anyone know if there are any clubs around the north east england

Hi Hunterz,
I was going to suggest that you have a look at the MPBA (model Power Boat Association) website, as they list all ther UK clubs, but it looks as though it is being updated and there is nothing on it. :(( However, I am sure that our members from the North-East will come up with plenty of suggestions. :-))

It was down for a few micro seconds as I did an update! All up and running now! Let me know if you still have problems. Unfortunately we don't list ALL UK clubs, only those affiliated to MPBA {:-{

Hi Hunterz, If you are interested in larger boats then close vehicle access and easy launching and recovery become priorities when choosing a boating venue. On Tyneside we have four excellent, friendly clubs, each has an attractive lake in pleasant surroundings. Tynemouth club is easily the outright winner on the above criteria, since members may drive their cars on site to offload/load boats between the clubhouse and water's edge.... a few yards away. Their purpose launching jetty is also less than 6 inches above the lake level. Heaton and District in Newcastle is in second place where the lakeside perimeter is stepped low and there is a small convenient car park reasonably close. Saltwell is relatively easy for launching and recovery with car parking not too far away. South Shields lake is very attractive and has been recently refurbished yet I place it last on the criteria. While parking is ok, the new bankside is not stepped and was substantially higher than the lake level last summer and members were without a low jetty to make launching and recovering larger, heavier models easier and safer. It's not surprising that Tynemouth members are noted for their large impressive scale models. Each club is different in terms of the lake, location,facilities and operating restrictions and each has it's own limitations. I'm sure that wherever you choose to join there will be willing hands to help on club days/nights but visiting solo outside these times could be very problematic at some venues especially if you are older and have a dodgy back like me. %) It's worth some travel time/research visits to find a club that really suits your individual interest and needs in a wider sense. :-)

Please give us a try. www.herringtonmodelboatclub.co.UK. Our club is only two years old but strong in numbers. We have a large open lake (one of the biggest in the north east) with unrestricted access 7days a week. We sail all craft from yacht, scale, nitro and petrol power. We have club racing on the first Sunday of the month in all classes, open days on bank holidays and more events planned for this year.
All are welcome to join us or just come along for a chat, directions can be had from our website.

:} Reading the posts, Perkasman stated that there are 4 Clubs in the North East - wrong there are 5, the fifth being Killingworth Model Club, just north of Newcastle and we have THE BIGGEST LAKE, 1/4 mile long, set in sheltered parkland with good free parking adjacent to the ClubHouse and easy flat access to the lake, we cater for disabled members and have toilet facilities. Pop in any Sunday 10 am to 12 am or a Wed night 6pm to 8pm. Contact tug wilson@talktalk.net and I'll send you a copy of the lake, or try google earth. We also publish a 16 page members newsletter bi-monthly,
