Does anybody still have or still sail one of these little yachts? I had one years ago, great fun it was too, much better IMHO than it's successor, the 590.
I wonder how it compares to the Graupner Micro Magic?

FLJ was on about your PM being full Rich, ever thought of deleting some ?

Been there, done that, message box has seven messages in it. I was involved in a business deal ( %)) via pm with Klunk, and I got a message pop up telling me I'd sent ten pm's inside an hour, and that was my maximum.

Sorry to bother you gents but can anyone tell me how big these yachts are i.e. how tall they are there beam and what ballast they require :-))
-
575mm Less than 2 Ft
Sails quite well
One of our members sails one
It likes wind and sails well when
my Marblehead is on B rig

Just had a look at the instructions which quote 1-1/4 pounds of ballast as a starting point.
This would vary depending on radio, batteries etc. Not sailed mine for years, but remember
it went well even though it had, and still has, the original sail material.
-
LESRO still sell the 575, is it the same boat or a copy?
-
Identical Nige, same kit as the original...twice the price though!
-
I've got an original up in the loft, I bought it from an aeromodelling fair and it was the only nautical thing there {-) It is well used though and has a hole in the bottom of the hull which I never noticed when buying it %) I'm getting into yotting in a big way and have quite an assortment of Footy's and Victorias etc. I want a Micro Magic, but in all honesty, I can't justify the price of one {:-{
I might just buy a new 575 and change the wooden mast and boom for something a little more modern....I don't fancy trying to repair the one in the loft as it's been painted......a lot of work rejuvenating when I can have a brand new one....
-
Changed the wood mast / booms for alloy tube on mine. Also used steel fishing trace for the
standing rigging and beefed up the fixing points on the hull. Much better. Never did get around
to making better sails though.
-
Alan,
In general, how does yours sail? Do Lesro supply the lead ballast? I like the shallow keel of boats like these so am in 2 minds whether to get one or not....depending on how well they sail really....
-
Nige.
Last time I sailed mine was about 12 years ago. Used to race, or should I say TRY, with others.
From what I remember my 575 went well, but as I still had my L plates on I was never up near
the front of the pack.
The more experienced sailors used better sail material and spent a lot of time making various
adjustments all to good effect.
The ballast is NOT supplied with the kit. I think I used lead shot in mine, sealed in with resin if I
remember correctly. I will have to get it out of storage and check. Maybe post a picture too.
-
Just had a look. Can't see the ballast in the keel. Too well sealed, but as there is an additional
lump of lead down in the depths the main ballast is almost certain to be lead also. The instructions
quote a sand / cement mix.
Forgot I had left a receiver battery pack in the hull, along with servos and receiver. :embarrassed:
Battery's will be well past the sell by date now although no corrosion visible.

What a pretty paint scheme! Congratulations...
-
Thanks. :-) Tried to do something a bit different. The hull markings are self adhesive
trim stripes. Easier than painting.

I was wondering how tall they are so I can tell if it will fit in the car boot without dimasting it?
-
Just measured up before I store mine away again.
33-1/2" total height ( top of mast to bottom of keel ) 26-1/2" top of mast to cabin roof.
-
Thans for that :-))

Well it's strange you should say that as their website http://www.lesromodels.co.uk/ is being currently flagged by Google as a bad site...... I was on it a few days ago without problems so I'm not sure what's happened, but I may just give them a ring......
.........................................
I've just rung them and they are aware of the problem, which has now been fixed but it may take a bit of time for Google to catch up... and that address above is their current one. :-))
