need to make more room here at home. so, giving away my Biber. it is scratched built. has a water tight box, which needs a new lid.
used to work with compressed air. didnt last long. also the box leaked. not good. so if any one fancies a challenge, get on to me.
one provido. whoever ecepts this challenge, pays postage, or even better collects, and keeps me informed of progress. seems a shame for it to live in a back room, unloved. its roughly 1/9th, i think, cant remember. i also have photos from the imperial war museum. just had enough of challenges.
hoping some one fancies it

I would like a go and willing to do all the above.

Would be nice to geta mould off of that. Looks better than the old darnell Biber.
-
would be an idea, but i dont have the facilities to do the job. if any one fancies giving it a go, well i'm open to offers.
have to make room, she must go

hi colin would be happy to cover postage costs, keep you informed of progress and make a donation to a charity of your choice - in return for a good home for this model
pm me if you want to discuss it further
-
Has the challenge been accepted? If not where are you?
-
it states wimbledon as his location on the member profile.......
not far from me !!!!

If someone wahts to prep the boat and get a moulding board ready, I'll mould it. It's the prep that takes all the time, moulding is quick and easy.
I'm getting my yellow submarine ready for lay-up and the moment, plus playing about laminating GRP tubes for piston ballast tanks.

oh dear. bit more responce than i thought. not only the aswers you see here but a couple of PM's plus e-mails. dont know what to do.
in answer to G. Bagley,I reckon a good charity would be something to with veterens. how about a "Forum" project? and would any one be interested in bying a mould? realy am stuck now. help.
yer, you are right i am in wimbledon.
if it becomes a "forum project" with any "profit" going to a charity, then i would me more than happy to meet delivery costs to help things along. (might be jumping the gun there)
thanks for the interest,
Stuck

I think the fairest thing to do would be to give first refusal to the first reply.

What became of this?

it found a good home.... and colins workmanship is truly appreciated - its being 'internally' refitted as we speak, now has a peristaltic pump fitted, a small buhler motor, there is still some work to do to on the radio fit out..... initial tank tests showed a list, and a leak ! so working on resolving these very soon,
i also need to remake the clear acrylic lid for the WTC as a small fracture has appeared...?
but not rushing these works.... slowly but surely this model deserves the time spending on it- its lovely !
-
Ah, good to know it's being rebuilt.
Might be worth replacing the acrylic lid with one fashioned from lexan/polycarbonate. Less hydroscopic and much tougher.
Andy
-
thanks for that andy, i have some 'macrolon' ( i think its spelt correctly) lying around at work, may try that !
-
That's the stuff. Makrolon is just a Bayers tradename for polycarbonate, like ICI's Perspex for acrylic.
-
its an off cut from work, will be plenty big enough for what i need ! ;D
the one thing which is proving the hardest is the amount of space inside the WTC ( well its not yet 100% watertight either !!!) and currently i have a slight list - idea is to rearrange the internals to try and counteract the list, but space is at a premium so it will take a fair bit of poking around, i can add ballast on the opposide side of the model but having gone down the peristaltic route adding more weight to the hull is not the preferred option........
i remember when i met up with colin discussing the amount of space and i thought there is enough.... now i have gear in then the space is going quickly !- micro Rx installed, sub c cells in place, reduced everything down to smallest possible size- but there is little room to move bits about....but i am sure it will all eventually slot in place....somehow..... if you can squeeze gear in the delta then there is hope....i am looking at some yet smaller cells with a similar capacity from multicell.............that maybe one option....
there is still alot of work to do and then lots of ballasting/ trimming to be done but as i said to colin its a long term project, role on the winter dark nights !
will get some pictures posted of progress so far too...........does not look much at present but slow steady progress, - i have not touched the outside of the hull as there is little to be done, it looks the part already !
-
and why do you think i got rid of it!!!
thanks for the kind words.
sort of getting interesred in my Seehund again, similiar problems, just slightly more room.
ease my curiosity, post some photos

How about LI polys cells it may help you to move the weight about..

personaly, i wouldnt take the chance, as they dont like water, or rather they do, explosively.
colin
-
I think the danger of li-pos and water is a bit of an urban myth. Plenty of folk are using them in the states in little subs, and they put them in the wet space!
You could switch to AA Ni-mH, they're very high capacity now, upto about 2500mAH I believe, which should give you an hour or more if you're using 12 volts and efficient motors.

know what you are saying, still aint going to risk it. not that i have yet got a working sub to try it on.
